a bulimic, a repressed geek, a masochist, a reckless nutjob , the characters seem to be lifted straight from Hollywood without even an attempt to disguise
Raja Sen, a review has a purpose. It is not to show case your English, or for your self expression. A review is for the purpose of public, helping them to decide whether the movie is worth spending their money or not. When public reads a review, they expect it to provide some basic information.
1. A hint of the storyline 2. The genre of the movie. Is it a thriller, romance, satire, political, spooky, action movie whatever. 3. Are the performances good ? 4. Are the songs and dances (if, any) good ? 5. Any exceptional good point of the film which makes the movie worth for some movie goers. For eg., a great dance number, great visuals, dialogues, stunts etc 6. Is the film boring or not (most important) 7. Would you recommend it or not ?
Your review does not provide any of this info except for the performances.

Well i was pissed off for the fact as i mentioned that i had high hopes ... i am not sure if you have seen paanch or not ... i could feel a taste of it in this, though not even close to the decade old movie. It was brilliant cinematography i must say but a weak character build up and no doubt a weak story line too (probably i could see more paanch in it). Mr arnab you showed great courage to watch ready and i am sure this movie would have been a relief. I suggest if you get a chance please watch paanch. Its readily available on torrents. And trust me ... i am a great fan of genuine movies but this one has its own flaws.
Dear Raja, one of the reasons I like rediff is to read how much worse can you become..I can't get over the fact that you liked MNIK so much (everyone is justified in liking whatever) and you just do not understand any alternate cinema..I wish we could sponsor some course for you on cinema..
Was reading a newspaper in Singapore the other day. There are complaints from parents that kids are being forced to learn cached phrases in school to churn up better English compositions. There are numerous books available for the kids to mug up those phrases and vomit them out in their compositions. Strangely, the scientific government of Singapore is yet to take notice of this.
To make a point against students being forced to rote cached phrases, this review by Raja Sen should be sent to the Singapore authorities. This one article is enough to showcase the point how the English language can be murdered with writer's propensity to showcase vocabulary and bombastic phrases at the cost of the main purpose of the communication.
However, this piece of review is better than Raja Sen's earlier article which rediff published - "Books with legs". The article was so horrible in content and composition that I still get nightmares as to how it got published in a mainstream web-site like rediff. Then again the editors of rediff most of the time are clueless as to what they are publishing.
I am not surprised at the review as it comes on a site that reviewed Johnny Gaddar as "a poor remake of Johnny Mera Naam" ! That itself proved that the reviewer had either not seen the former or the latter or both, what they were doing is going thru other reviews and fibbing their own, in this case they saw the mention of Johnny Mera Naam in other reviews and decided that this was a remake...can't blame them fully as maybe they don't get an invite to watch the newly released movies !
Raja Sen is a nutcase, and the less he is commented on the better. In no other country or no other media would this be considered a review, all this can be labelled is his view not a review. Ironically, the movie he runs down almost always scores heavily at the box office !
.a mesmerising piece of cinema that uplifts a slightly cliched storyline to one of the most wonderful moments on screen through its sheer technique, mindblowing camerawork, immaculate characterisation and breezy freshness....this was one helluva ride i'll never forget..hats off anurag kashyap,Bijoy Nambier...feeling proud that bollywood can churn out such movies...and seriously Rajeev Khandelwal (who did a superb Aamir) should do more of acting than reality shows..he is a treat to watch great actor..n also kalki Koeachin does mesmerizing job in portraying a trouble past who transcends into her surreal world with hallucinogenic drugs :)

anurag kashyap has been my teacher in Aurobindo Institute of Mass communication Delhi. his style is my story, my film, my cinema. i care a hoot to the audience. if you like you come and watch or else be off. he makes cinema for himself. but presents society in the darkest side possible. another Ram Gopal Verma in making

So you mean being your teacher or not is the criteria to decide whether the movie is good or not ?

Absolutely agreed especially statements like I'm all for men in cars accidentally blowing a kid's head off. What kind of idiotic sense of cinema does this person has ??
Raja Sen is fit for an Indian organization like Rediff.
Look at the number of adverbs this guy uses - there are more than 60 adverbs in this piece of prose (if you can call it that). Jeez - what a shame - and he writes for a popular web site. Talk about low standards. 60 adverbs - this is a bloody farce.
Yahoo, MSN or any of the other MNCs will never employ him. He lacks the skill to communicate. Rediff has low standards, so he can feel safe here.
You see - it's very easy to write glittery sentences, but difficult to write power-packed sentences that actually have substance and meaning. And when one can't do the latter, he masks his helplessness behind big and shiny words.
Sen, get a grip. _Study_ some King or Zinnser. And raise your standards. Really. Else you'll be stuck with Rediff all your life.
Or perhaps you're happy being the big fish in a small pond.
Plz Mr Sen, this is not a medium to showcase your language skills but to review a movie. I request you to be simple in your reviews because most of us directly go to the STAR ratings below after reading a few lines of your crap.
