By Vidya Balan portraying Silk Smitha, she would lend her grace which Silk sorely lacked. Silk smita was a nobody, her oomph which is mentioned again and again was hardly anything more than pout and cheap gestures.
Vidya Balan is not a good choice to play Silk Smitha, with due respect to her. Silk Smitha's sex appeal is not present at all in Vidya. Bipasha would have been a better choice, if not the best.

Bipasha"s got upmarket cosmopolitan looks, moreover she does not posses Footballs & tree trunks like Ms.Silk Smitha did. No way she'd have looked better
By calling Silk Smitha sexy, actually everybody is defaming her as valgar actress and that is why you are writing and discussing about her outfits, looks etc. As if Smitha was only meant for b grade roles. But now a days each and every actress looks and try to look sexy and glamourous but they are given clean chit then why name of Smitha should be defame?

b grade would be enhancing her status. She was more like a c grade nobody. People would not be talking about her if not for Vidya playing her.
Vidya Balan though a good and talented actress is definitly the wrong choice ...and this is even obvious to a layman who might not have even seen a Silk movie....Silk and Vidya both look different from their physical aspects onwards...its a different issue that Vidya is talented and can carry roles with ease...but when a director is making a movie on real life people he should stick to actresses who look similar for authenticity...thats what they do in Hollywood...

I agree with Pradeep. Not so much the looks, but Vidya lacks the oomph of Silk. I seriously doubt she will be able to recreate that raw sex appeal with her plain jane looks. It's going to be a challenge for her.

i think there's a sharp contrast in the images we have for silk smitha and vidya balan. The director wanted to leverage it.
While your point is valid regarding the difference in looks, there's no one way of looking at it, and we don't necessarily have to follow the footsteps of hollywood, we can sometimes think something new which makes sense to people.
