Vidya Balan though a good and talented actress is definitly the wrong choice ...and this is even obvious to a layman who might not have even seen a Silk movie....Silk and Vidya both look different from their physical aspects onwards...its a different issue that Vidya is talented and can carry roles with ease...but when a director is making a movie on real life people he should stick to actresses who look similar for authenticity...thats what they do in Hollywood...

I agree with Pradeep. Not so much the looks, but Vidya lacks the oomph of Silk. I seriously doubt she will be able to recreate that raw sex appeal with her plain jane looks. It's going to be a challenge for her.

i think there's a sharp contrast in the images we have for silk smitha and vidya balan. The director wanted to leverage it.
While your point is valid regarding the difference in looks, there's no one way of looking at it, and we don't necessarily have to follow the footsteps of hollywood, we can sometimes think something new which makes sense to people.
Rediff you have a sick .... moderator,people like us from the south who have seen numerous movies in which Silk featured are better judges...your moderator must be young and probably would not have even been born when Silk was popular ...so why does he remove genuine opinions by me...
I have seen numerous movies in the 80s when Silk Smitha was popular .Vidya Balan a talented and classic looking beauty is definitely not suitable for this role both are opposites in looks and body language.Silk Smitha ,was sultry ,sexy dark with more of sex appeal than the chiseled looks of Vidya Balan.If you ask me a definite wrong choice for the role.Even Priya Mani a talented dark & sultry looking southern star, though she does not resemble Silk would have suited the role better.

I guess, Priyamani is the supporting actress in ravan, isnt it? If you are talking about her, then i agree that she would have looked the part.
I personally feel the right choice would have been namita as she looks and has sex appeal like silk smita, eventhough vidya will act well for sure and has the look in her eyes.
Silk Smitha was tall, dark, big sexy eyes and juicy lips, Silk was voluptous and her body language was very sexy. She had great tits and thunder thighs. See Layanam which was made when she was her 30s, she is so hot. Vidya is short and has bow legs ( seen it in the movie Hey Baby and Kismat Connection) Sameera Reddy or weight put on Priyanka would be a better choice. Vidya balan is at same age now when Silk died. So she does not fit in this role
