Is Rahman the greatest Composer ever?
by bob clown on Feb 28, 2011 08:22 AM  | Hide replies

It is like the Oscar committe always gives award for a particular people whom they like, this trend has to change. Of course, Rahman has made some wonderful music in Tamil films, but can he match the caliber of Western people. What about great composers like Ilyaraja or many others, should they be ignored?

Bob ur right.. My opinion is that awards do not measure anybody's capability. For example,Ilayaraja or RD.Burman do not need any award to prove they are genius. They are beyond any oscar or grammy or bafta and so on..

I do agree with both of u, But the time has changed, if Ilayaraja works same as like Rahman for slumdog film, he could b there na? but it didn't happnd, And moreover when they didn't have feelings like who is great, they y should we?

I totally agree with you on your comment about Ilayaraja & others. Thank goodness the Oscar folks had their sense return after a major lapse last year where the crap Slumdog got those awards. It looked like they were giving out Razzies & not Oscars!! :D

I wonder why there has not been much articles on AR Rahman, even though he has been again nominated for a couple of more Oscars. Will this be the same case if a 'northie' gets nominated for oscars..? I'm sure the media will go upside down in bringing up articles and hyping the situation if an 'northie' even gets an nomination. Rahman has won two Oscars more than any indian. He is the greatest and yet there seems to be some eerie silence in the media about his achievement.

Northies are just lazy copy cats who work hard only in one department loud mouth abusive language and dressing up like gays with colorful outfits. South people are quiet, intelligent and down to earth thats why they meet immense success whether in sports(leander, mahesh) or science(noble prizes, cvr, schandra or ramunajan to name very few) or in music(ar rahman, mia). Gone are northindian quality, genuiness or honesty. What remains now is superficial talk and big mouth who dominate northindia shunning all good talented northindian who are still in poor villages. Where do you hear rags to riches stories in Northindia. Great abdul kalam was a fisherman's son who was encouraged by tamil upper class iyers to study and excel(which he mentions in his biography) North is busy shunning lower caste and strong racism exists even in smallest of community...you can never excel with hatred and half wit in your life.

There is no Northie Southie here. There has been lot of news about this. The point here is there is not much charm left in these kind of awards for people and moreover, overrated things will not be the best.

all the best to ar rahman...
by rocky on Feb 27, 2011 07:42 AM  | Hide replies

though this time he is not the clear favourite this time, he has done a stupendous job in giving music to a movie which doesn't have much scope..
i hope rahman gets the award... it was really great to hear the voice of dido and rahman together in the 'if i rise ' song.. its a great moment that rahman has once again been nominated for the oscars... he is the greatest musician india has ever produced.. he is the 'mozart of madras'.. a true gem in the mould of the great mozart...

by parvaiz khan on Feb 26, 2011 11:32 AM

The movie is very inspiring and great piece of work from danny boyle and A R Rahman .Even though self amputation scene was unbearable to watch but i was wondering why can not our movie directors can make such movie and rahman song in the movie and the music is too good, getting nomination alone is big achiement .

100% right Mr.Indgold.. Ask the AR supporters to listen to the background score of Nandalala. It is a real class that will touch the heart. No promotions or marketing is required like these crazy things.Music does the talking.Rd.Burman,MSV,Naushad were far better than AR.

I can not discuss with any person who brings religion for just hatred.Rahman has been nominated for American movie and Danny Boyle has kept faith in him and Rahman live upto the expectation.Go and watch that wonderfull movie and listen to the music ,you are comparing to indian songs. That is a true story of a guy who got trapped in rocks in Grand canyon for 127 hrs and atlast he self amputate his hand for survival and Rahman had been appreciated by almost the US critics and his achievement for India, look your own life and do something which atleast your family may feel proud of if not Nation.

Why what is the problem with Indian songs?Anyday these If I rise or Jai Ho are nothing when compared to our great songs..If westerners are crazy about his music, let them give him as many oscars as they want..That does not mean whatever they certify shud be the best..
