Ok, but quibbles with certain portrayals..
by Reva Chandrasekaran on Apr 02, 2011 12:15 AM

It has been the trend, especially off late in Tamil movies. I elaborate with examples from a recent movie.

Hindus (both priests and the above average religious ones) are portrayed as fools at best: Payanam has a typical scene where the enforcement officers smirk at the politico when he vows to offer a tonsure to Lord Venkateshwara if situation is resolved.
And as quacks and charlatans at worst: The Hindu TV-Astrologer/Numerologist/Vaasthu-expert (Monobala's character), the equivalent of the Christian Televangelist, is made fun of for his "superstitions"; even the Karl Marx reading passenger takes digs only at the astrologer, not at the Christian priest with his talk of sins and symbols of cross and rosary. The Christian priest is portrayed as all dignity, full of benevolent sense and level-headedness.

As if faiths other than Hinduism are not ridden with superstitions, or for that matter with fraudsters and are not deserving of labels and derision. It would seem watching these movies that the only sane Hindus are secular Hindus (such as the army officer played by Thalaivaasal Ravi).

Enough with this asymmetric political correctness already!

FAN
by shankarganesh on Feb 24, 2011 10:54 AM

Am a Fan of the Pair Radha Mohan Prakash Raj. Sensible stars. I did not feel great when the plane was immediately hijacked, but it picked up well then. Subash character did not have any sympathy shown at the end. The reporter in police dress was left as such and not shown again. My view was, as per Nagarjuna's instruction, if ranganathan, ask the final terrorist to give the bomb remote to him as if he is taking charge and receiving it, pulling that guy down from the plane making him shot for death, the charcter would have got more appreciation.
Its all just few minuses I saw, but still I always love to watch Mr.Radha Mohan's sensible films and all these stuffs can be erased from minus when comparing with the total illogical films that is coming on to the screen now a days. It was really nail biting at the end. Though nagarjuna was stylish and acted well, I am not happy about his dubbing, still I feel some other actor can be given the option. Mohanlal will be a great choice...
Sam, Prithvi, Rishi, Vijay, Baskar, Kumaravel, Manobala, all all all did extremely a great job. Ranganathan a very familiar neighbourhood face has a great role to play in tamil cinemas from now on.

EAGERLY EXPECTING THE NEXT PEARL FROM RADHA MOHAN SIR AND PRAKASH RAJ SIR.....

This movie is a lesson
by vadivel kumar on Feb 14, 2011 12:05 PM

This movie touches the selfishness of each and everyone.
The Govt who cares only abt elections not the people
The Govt top officials who does not want to take any risks and try to delay things and try to earn good name from PM/..... even from the tough situtaion
Media-Who try to say anything for their TRP rating.........
Also brought the good things of some poeple
First NSG-Who try eagerly to get a chance to save the life of people
A Christian father-Who is ready to read even Kuran barring the religion and also pray for the terrorists aftet the death.
An Ex military officer-Who try to do something to save the passengers
Air Hostess-who serve the passengers in the crisis.
An Youngster who is bold enough to speak with terrorists even his life is in disarray
A Jr.Artist-Who decided to give his life for the country by acting as a terrorist.

Nice Job Radhamohan/Praksh raj and team............

Is Radhamohan a brahmin?
by raman iyengar on Feb 13, 2011 02:18 PM  | Hide replies

Just curious to know if Radhamohan is a brahmin. I'm skeptical in the way Pavithra has adored this movie which she don't do it for Selva or Bala.

Bro, we are discussing the movie here, not some caste related angle to whether the movie a good or not. I think it will be a mass appreciated movie. Who cares who made it or which caste he belonged to many years back ??? We need good movies, that's all.

Agreed, it does not matter who made the movie; and definitely not pertinent to "reviewing" the review. And the reviewer's caste allegiance is irrelevant. If anything, I would say Pavitra's review focuses on the surface elements in the movie and is very innocuous. I found it entertaining as well.

But please do read my observations posted above: Certain scenes in this and other recent movies might have implications for future peace and unity in the land. And responsible people should not close their eyes to this trend and just concentrate on the time-pass intentions of movies.

Thanks for your showcasing your knowledging..thank God they didn't go to Kashmir to take the movie..otherwise you will call it a Kashmiri movie..Lols. Also, plz understand the "Set" for this movie was constructed in Hyd, but it doesnt mean it is a Telugu movie. By the way, I dont mind if it is a Telugu/Malayalam/Tamil movie, only thing is that it shd be a good movie. I am just countering ur thoughts.
