because they have been paid to hype an old movie which looked much better in black and white in the first place. today movie theatres charge huge amounts for tickets and ppl are very choosy about what films they watch and most will not want to spend it on a very old movie which has been shown 1000s of times in tv channels
they will never say wait for a few weeks when it's shown for free in satellite channels or available as a cheap priced dvd in stores

It is not just about the money. It is about authenticity. The movie was "real" in its black and white glory. It will look artificial in colour.
