He was loved, more than he was respected, and that's a compliment

I think one should forgive a son his tresspasses. There's nothing wrong with him thinking his dad was 'Bollywood' or that we lacked the intelligence as an audience to appreciate Dev saab's films. That's true. With al due respects, there'd have to be a collective inteligence of a 5 yr old to apreciate his later movies. Let's just forget al that and remember him for what he brought in his prime, and his refusal to grow old, even with all the wrinkles and stuff. He was a decent actor, a decent man, and had immense longevity. Let's celebrate that without going down the road of thespian or commercal achievement.
Our condolences are with Suneil, and he should understand that people loved his dad and that's why they still accepted him till his last, despite the kind of tripe he was involved in.
Cheers

i grew up watching his movies on saturdays and sundays DD evening shows. they would air his movies the most than rajkapoors or dilip kumars, because his movies contains the essential masala ingredient, like no sorrow, superb songs, good fight scenes(which is what any kid would have wanted)...in his later years, though age was catching up, he probably doesnt wanted to show it to the outside world, both physical and mental side, so he continued to dress like his young acting days even till his last breath...thats the sign of a man who doesnt want to get dominated by ageing..such a tough character..

With all due respect to Mr. Dev Anand and his contribution to Indian cinema, he was a lousy actor. Completely over the top.

Did you just wake up to crib about this? We all like Dev for his flamboyance and style and the character and elegance he brought to Hindi cinema.. but that was all in the 50s and 60s. Hindi cinema grew over the years and after the 80s and 90s there was simply no role for the respected Dev to fit into the scheme of things. Anyone will admit Dev saab is not a character actor like Amitabh who transformed himself and reinvented sort of in his later years. But for Amitabh, every one else have faded into oblivion with passage of time.. So take heart my friend..we are glad that we had Dev Anand of the 60s and 50s and Rajesh Khanna and Amithabh of 70s etc..
