It's wrong to say that he was never given his due. Every star goes through stages where their star popularity rises and then wanes. Unfortunately for Dev Saab he outlived most of his die hard fans.
Also unlike fans of some of the present day generation stars (Khans/Kumar), most of Dev Anand Fans are more cultured, sophisticated and mellowed down. We are not the ones who would flock to the theatres to catch a movie. We would prefer to catch them on a DVD.
That aside, you must focus on production of movies, and stay away from the creative side. Don't make the mistake what your dad did (PBUH). You must get talent back into Navketan. Remember the Burmans,Sahni, Guru Dutt, Jaidev, Zeenats etc.
You need to open up Navketan for other directors, writers and creative folks. Use the good money you have made recently in the real estate deal, and make good movies which new generation of fans would like to see.
Dear Sunil, with all due respects to U pls dont return back to acting!!!Anand Aur Anand was a horror!Direction wud be a better idea i Tthink.all the very best!
Dev Anand was a good actor, but Vijay Anand was the better director. Things started falling apart when Dev took the director's mantle. He should have seriously looked for new blood in the 80's. If he had done that, it would'nt have been so embarassing. I only saw one of his later movies Awwal Number and let me tell you, it was awful. Sad, because his black and white movies are still watchable, whereas, Raj Kapoor's and Dilip Kumar's are not, unless you are a diehard fan.
JAYA JAYA SHRI KRUSHNA! Of course, I am spiritually enlightened and God-realiseed, by the grace of Lord Krushna, who later took over as my Husband. But, I can discuss Dev Sahab, as they call him with love. We have the same name, Dev(Deb in Odiya), except that I am greater than him with the addition of 'Indra' with my Deb(Debendra)! When I was in college, I copied his hairstyle in front(slightly raised). I saw all his films. But, I was not his fan, like my son, Shashanka(Pinku). Pinku is infatuated. Don't know, how he has coped with his death. His role in film Guide is very significant in view of my own spiritual journey. But, that was acting only for him. It is real for me. I can call Dev as my child now, since I am Krushnaswarup now. His remaining active till his death is due to excessive Rajo-guna in him. Rajo-guna has the nature of giving lot of work and lot of sorrow with it. His son would know if Dev was really a happy man. In theory, a man of the world does not know real happiness. Dev was a man of the world. He could have been spiritual after Guide. The Actors should think about it. My Husband, Lord Krushna Chandra was(is) the greatest Actor(Leela Purushottama). Therefore, the Actors of today have a duty to emulate Lord Krushna and sincerely follow His teachings in the Gitaji. Any one who lives Gitaji, does not remain in the world; he becomes spiritual sooner or later. The charishma of Devanand(meaning Godly happiness)is Divine, since it is gifted by the Lord.HARIB
