The charm is that they did not marry. In the filmdom the lovers should not marry. What happened to Hirthik Roshan and his childhood lover Sussanne ?. It is VANITY.

The 'charm' was lost on Dev Anand, who like most males of those times, could not wait till her family agreed.

PARENTS OF SURAIYA BOTH MOTHER AND FATHER DID NOT UNITE THEM. DEV SAHIB WAS TRUE AND RIGHT PERSON FOR HER. SHE DIED WITHOUT MARRIAGE ANOTHER TRIBUNE TO SURAIYA'S TRUE LOVE.MAY THEY MEET AFTER DEATH. LOVE TO THEM.
I think suraiya was sincere and she really loved dev anand from the bottom of her heart but she also loved her family..she remained unmarried..it shows how sincere she was towards dev anand.
Very sad indeed. Wonder what Suraiya may goner thru seeing his movies and reading about him and his affairs considering the fact that she never got married.
Its so funny that the grandma is the villian of the piece while the mother is on the side of the girl. What was the idiot father doing? Suraiya should have let her grandma die (anyway she is going to die some day soon) and gone to Dev.
