my vote goes to Masoom.. the portrayal of a benevolent mum n betrayed wife n confused step-mom all at once on the dining table ..is awesum.. ..its a complex scene requiring Shabana to ne tuff and soft n hurt at the same time.. only the facila lines n expression in the eyes change.. there is very little dialogue.. n the scenario gets a lump-in-d-throat response... i wud say its one of the most underrated but brilliantly executed scene....

I am in total agreement with you. I must have seen the video cassette a dozen times. The performance of Shabana and Nasiruddin is top class. The music is haunting; how a modern housewife copes with the impulsive infidelity of her husband, who is otherwise a perfect husband. The strife and struggle she has to face with the kid, who did not commit any fault and left mother-less. And the final act of accepting the boy under her motherly care is really touching. I have not seen many movies of that caliber. She is a class above the so-called glamour stars of today - who are good only to appear in provocative costumes and break into a silly song and dance sequence every 30 minutes. When one imagines Aishwarya Rai or Kareena Kapoor in that role in Masoom, it is like imgaining Dev Anand in a dhothi!
An extremely articulate, intelligent, versatile actress...I doubt anyone like her can match up to her talent showcased in the genre of films she did in her career.
Some other worth noteworthy films were Paar, Nishaant, and there is this Bengali film I cant recall the name where she is married to a tree...brilliant performance there!

I would agree fire is known for more of a controversy rather than content matter, although i did not see it, i dont think its any better than a soft porn !!!
