I thought it was lifted from Richard Attenborough's Gandhi (or Gandhi's life) - Protagonist comes from foreign, initially not so interested in people, suggested by someone to go around the country side, Protagonist gets transformed in the process and decides to dedicate life to the Indian masses

Dev-D's ending was a lifter, unlike the original Devdas, and I loved it for that.

LOL...every second commie Bengoli is named Debasish MukHaarjhee in bhodrolok. Keep eating your Hilsa and swallowing rosogollas, and destroying Bhesht Bhenghol. Was the most industrialized state in 1947 and is the most dysfunctional state alongside Bihar and Jharkhand today.

The latest UNDP report includes W Bengal along with 7 other north Indian states as the poorest in India, and collectively having 400 million people living in worse poverty and backwardness than the people in 25 most poorest nations of Sub Saharan Africa.

And these guys are more interested in ridiculing the South.

"You are insane my dear ... and bye ... God bless your thinking"

LOL. Obviously you can dish it out, but can not take it when someone gives back to you just as good.

Friend, remember while most south Indians are decent and cultured and dont resort to obnoxious behavior as northies and 'northernized' bengalis and maharashtrians, there are a few like me who have lived with all such specimens. I can read all of you like a book, and pay you back in your own coin. When that happens you people remember God and say, "God bless your thinking".

I wish you had thought about God when you unilaterally started calling South Indians/South Indian films names - UNPROVOKED!

I can assure you, I wont throw the first punch. But will rain like a ton or bricks when an obnoxious uncultured person decides to exhibit his upbringing.

Dear BhootPret, that is exactly the point I am making. Satyajit Ray and others contributed to make Bengali Film Industry and literature one of the finest in the country - actually the best.

Now fast forward to today...Bengalis cinema is pretty much non existent...just like Marathi and Punjabi cinema and literature, all of which have been swallowed up and being marginalized by Hindi cinema and north Indian culture.

I am amazed by the sorry spectacle of Bengalis, especially from Delhi, who in their attempt to appear more North Indian than north Indians, tend to ridicule South India and teh obvious pride that South Indians have about their distinct culture and achievements of their film industries. It almost as if the Northernized Bengalis have to behave more obnoxious than the original North Indians to curry favor and acceptance among north Indians. If there is an even more sorry spectacle, it is so called 'cosmopolitan' bengalis (and to a lesser extent, Maharashtrians) trying to belittle and ridicule 'ethnic' or more 'traditional' Bengalis and Maharashtrians respectively. While this comical sight is commonplace in Delhi, you can actually catch so called northernized Bengalis in Calcutta/Kolkata ridicule teh accent/culture/mannerisms of Bengalis as you will see so called 'hip' maharashtrian people in Mumbai ridicule the more traditional 'marathis'.

To these specimens I say, look and learn from us South Indians...We are extremely proud of our language and culture.

No No No, Setu. We can't belittle any industry. No doubt, Debasish was being unreasonable. But, we have Satyajit Ray from Bengali Film Industry, who made classics like Apu Trilogy. The trilogy is considered to be one of the greatest achievements of Indian Film Industry by critics...

The so called North South divide started with the release and subsequent hype created by "ROBO" / "Endhiran". My earnest request to all the concerned is that we as Indians have to respect each other and should do away with Regional/Language differences in the name of our beloved country.

There is no doubt that the Tamil movie industry has produced some of the finest movies over the decades amongst all Indian / World movies. So is the case with rest of the South Indian movies. In fact, most of the films made all South Indian languages are by far the finest and have some great actors /actreses, who could not get due recognition because of having limited visibility (due to language barrier). Actors like Savithri, SV Ranga Rao, NTR, ANR, Sivaji Ganeshan, Kamal,Mohanlal,Mammotty,RajKumar, etc are one of the best in Indian / World Cinema history.

"Come out of idli dosa and then see the world"

HeyRosogolla, did you read what he wrote. That Tamil movie is the only Indian moves included in the 100 all time great movies complied by Time magazine.

You may think very high of your cheap bollywood, but that didn't still cause any of your bollywoodPhillums to get into that list.

And as for Bengali film industry...well it pretty much is non existent so lets not even go there. Ha Ha Ha

You Bengalis now have become total water carriers for these bollywoodHindiWallahs.

That's because you weren't on the panel. Otherwise 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' would have occupied the top slot, followed by 'Don No 1' (Bhojpuri) and 'Dabangg'

Hatya starring Govinda was under rated. It came out in 80s but I watched it late 90s. Very unlike other Govinda movies and other 80s masala movies.
