Me
Americans in love with Hrithik
by Me on May 24, 2010 10:08 PM

I am not speaking about the Indians in America. Nor am I in America.

But I went to the Rottentomatoes site (for those who dont know, its where teh review of all Hollywood movies from all top critics in USA are posted) and found that 86% critics rated it good.

They all said that the lead pair are so beautiful that you forget the blatant errors and unbelievable story of the movie. Critics of New York Times, L.A. Times etc are saying that Hrithik is unbelievably handsome, and has acted properly for his role.

I read the review in rediff too, where they said its an utter disaster. May be the Americans liked teh freshness of watching a Bollywood movie, like how Slumdog succeeded with a Bollywood-like story..

excellent opening
by crazy architect on May 24, 2010 09:06 PM

On it's first weekend in the United States, the film opened up at #10 in the box office and grossed a total of $1 Million. This is excellent performance, considering that all the other films in the top 10 were playing in over 1,000 theaters while Kites only played in 207.

Kites is a great movie!
by Deepak Bharatiya on May 24, 2010 07:41 PM  | Hide replies

My cousin from LA wrote to me that Kites Movie rating flies high in Hollywood skies. The
Patriotic Indians in USA are thrilled...as they never expected what the Hindi movie did in
Hollywood film arena. The movie was well received by critics and normal theater goers equally and became one of the most reviewed Bollywood film. Kites music has also been appreciated by the viewers. Kites action scenes are one of the thrilling and eye catching.

Kites box office collection is huge in USA and is good indication of success of the movie.
His American female and male collegues from his IBM office who had joined him to watch Kites
just for fun sake told him...Hrithik Roshan is a great looking brilliant actor...he will rule
Hollywood....they were in love with him.cheers!

That only proves how gentlemanly americans are.. they came with their friend and didnt want to embarass him.. other wise, the words "Hrithik Roshan" and "Brilliant actor" never can go together..
And that too from americans who have seen people like Anthony Hopkins, Al Pacino, Samuel L Jackson, Denzel washington, Russel crowe etc, etc, etc...

Whats the point Karun...just bcos the revered actors belong to US, we shouldnt be praising our gems from Bollywood?
U have too much of a slav3 syndrome than the rednecks expect!
BTW...I can blubber quite a few movies of the abovementioned actors in which they were disastrous!
Get rid of this mentality!

Kites mantra
by Gowda on May 24, 2010 07:12 PM  | Hide replies

This is Kites mantra - release in as many theaters as possible and anyway people will rush in theaters within first week of release for the amount of hype kites has created. Film makers know that kites will not run after a while !

Kites has been black listed!!!!
by vijay chauhan on May 24, 2010 07:03 PM

All you fans of Roshans!!! Here is some news for you. Kites has been listed as defaulter 'for failure to make payment of salaries and pension and health contributions to performers' by the SAG. I suppose they couldn't get away with Bollywood attitude in Hollywood.

If you don't believe me got to the Screen Actors Guild website and search for Kites. You will see how Kites is doing India's name 'Roshan'!!

This is mostly watched by ABCD girls who cant understand bollywood movies. Though the English version is release, so what? They have spent a lot on this stupid movie. Doubt they will recover, forget the profit.

Why can't they research a little, little better?
by John on May 24, 2010 06:29 PM  | Hide replies

MNIK and now Kites. Multi-million dollar budgets, stylish clothes, great songs and unrealistic storylines.
Anyone who has lived in the US for even 1 month can spot the huge crater like errors.
Whether it is going from Frisco to DC via Georgia in MNIK?! Or killing people in full view of the cops, as Tony does in Kites...it just doesn't happen in the US.
I'm sorry, I just can't buy the idea that these directors and scriptwriters can't bother to research something which every person in the US knows.
Just 2 simple errorswill explain:
1) When J and Mori are in a car and a cop asks them to pull over, they SPEED UP. And they haven't done anything yet. Nobody I know in the US (unless he has committed a murder) will not obey a patrol car on your tail.
2) J pulls the Green card scam by asking each woman for 1000 USD. 1000 USD? For a Green Card? Do the film writers know how coveted the GC is? And how many illegal immigrants in US would kill to get it? And its available for 1000 USD? Which anyone can earn working illegaly in the US for 15 days?
All I can say, is research, research and research. Thank you

Dude..what are you talking about..
How realistic is Iron man ..2nd n the list.
How realistic was ocean's 13 ..or any one from that series??

These movies are not meant to capture reality but to take you to a level of fiction..far from real..

This is why people go to theaters..at aleast some of them :)

Well attention to detail has never been one of bollywoods strong areas... some times i wish, if these bolly-directors would give even 1% importance to story line and script and some plain common sense and logic, as compared to the amount of attention given to useless songs and dance routines, then hindi movies would be so much better..
Aamir khan could be the only exception in main stream players, who gives some attention to script and story line...
