Naseer is a great actor, one has to watch the movie, masoom. he won the national award for that. he is also well known in Hollywood. watch "the extraordinary league of gentlemen" that is a class movie with other hollywood stars. He is known for contemprary cinema, even though he has starred in the masala cinema as well.

Let me get the simple fact out of the way first, Naseeruddin Shah is an excellent actor and has given some amazing performance and one of the best we have in the so called sensible cinema. In commercial cinema his performances are plain boring and yawn worthy.

Surprisingly from what I have seen of him during his interviews in television or in articles in print or web or the one time I have met him in person, one thing that comes out is he is too pompous about his views and too full of himself. Quite ironically he exhibits the same obnoxious behavior he supposedly loathes.

Making such statements that he does not believe any truly great Cinema would be made in India during his lifetime is absurd and foolish to say the least. Honestly is it not too pretentious to assume that you are even aware of all movies that are made in the country let alone judging them?
Also the view that money corrupts quality of movies and Stars are synthetic as they do not play the character but themselves is too naïve and simplistic a conclusion to make. I for sure believe there is nothing like becoming the character completely for a known actor, It is rather the personal interpretation through his performance and its truthfulness that counts. This applies for performances of Naseeruddin as well. Can think of any of Naseeruddin’s finest performance without thinking about him and his interpretation of the character? Its just not possible. Its only compete anonymity that gi

Satish Shah

Well said Rajesh. Naseruddin is very pompus and has what the youngsters call "Attitude". He generalises unnecessarily. When he was doing new wave films he used to look down upon commercial films. Now he has joined commercial films and acted in Ishqiya which was condemable for its filthy language. When Amitabh Bachchan was doing commercial films Naseer commented that "Amitabh has prostituted his talents". Now may I ask what Naseer has done to his non-exisitent talents?
