Rediff, can you please not use 'LEGEND' Vikram
by shaukhatalikhan shaukhatalikhan on Jun 17, 2010 12:04 AM  | Hide replies

I don't think Vikram can claim the 'LEGEND' tag, Rediff, at least, not just yet.

have u watched his movies..? He is a very consistent performer. The article didnt say he is a legend in bollywood. It says southern legend. He has earned that tag with enough performances and holding movie on his own and bringing in money and crowd to theaters. I am not asking u to review ur thoughts.. i am merely stating the fact

Maniratnam & Rahman!
by mallaiah anchoori on Jun 16, 2010 09:56 PM  | Hide replies

To concur with Kamble '||'&'||'amp; Zeng,Maniratnam '||'&'||'amp; Rahman really do not deserve to be taken to such heights. They may be better over others/their peers, but certainly not the best.Yes, Maniratnam''s photography will be good, but awfully lacks the story value while what Rahman creates is only noise -NOT music. His socalled music is always supplantary to the song instead of being supplementary to the lyric. He mixes the tracks of various other musicians '||'&'||'amp; tries to create an impression as if some thing new is profounded by him. Unfortunately seldom people realise it.It is different thing that happens tin several international awards.Music is some thing which should always be ear-dearing (appealing);in no song with his music exhibits this much needed quality of a good music.

It is hard to name a single good music director from Kannada or Tamil movie industries. That says it all.

do u hear tamil songs? Please try Harris Jayaraj or yuvan shankar raja. in case u have not heard of Illayaraja.. u may want to hear before commenting.

Lets not write off music directors.. Across india in each regional area there are plenty of talents. its up to us to browse and listen to music. Either choose to listen what reaches u and continue to be ignoratn or reach out enjoy range of music across languages like hindi, punjabi, tamil, telugu, bengali and try malayalam.

Being short sighted is an option u can choose to excercise.. but u cant blame the world for that.

Truth - you want truth? A.R Rehman - the only Music Composer to win 2OSCAR awards is from Tamil Nadu. The great legendary Ilaya Raja is from Tamil Nadu, too.

Maniratnam- All hype
by dkamle on Jun 16, 2010 05:23 PM  | Hide replies

Maniratnam and A.R.Rahman are both, all hype and no substance.

If you look at Maniratnam's films, he seriously lack storytelling and screenplay skills.YOu cant hide this flaw by brilliant photography or good cinematography.Hirani on other hand is brilliant in story telling. Guru was a very boring movie, and so was some of his other duds. This movie looks no different, only visuals and no content-dialogues,script,screenplay. Think before wasting anything here.

A.R.Rahman doesnt understand hindi lyrics.Thats why he stuck to P.K.Mishra(" teri galiyoon mein mard na chhodunga, aurat bhi naa..") for so many years. This guy takes Gulzaar to write lyrics, then fails to do justice to it. Just hear the songs in Raavan, the lyrics & the melody is missing, and you just hear Rahman's poor voice chanting Beera,beera..Roja is still his best so far, hasnt grown as music director in last 15 yrs.Illyaraja is 10 times better than him.

Zeng
Re: Maniratnam- All hype
by Zeng on Jun 16, 2010 05:36 PM
Rahman was awesome in early part of his career. Roja, Bombay, Gentleman and some early tamil films. From the time he entered Hindi and started getting national recognition, his music actually started going down. And from the time he started getting international recognition, he lost it completely. These days, there is nothing exciting about his music - just some average stuff here and there, that feels like okay when you hear 10-20 times.

The work he got oscar etc.. is simply trash. If a song(?) like "Jai Ho" got him international awards - what would have he got for Rojas and Bombay? Even ilaya raja has gone thorugh the same, even though he created top quality music for much more time.

Rahman and Mani are not exactly Hype - Rahman is a musical genius who is well past his creative best. Many is a great director, even though some of the stories he tell is not that great. Possibly he is not a great writer, but a very very good director.
