inflation is adjusted in the price of movie tickets. In 2000 price of the ticket would be $5 and now it would be $10 as the inflation has been positive. So inflation automatically gets adjusted!!

Avatar is @26 in US boxoffice as of today if inflation is adjusted...!!

Avatar's $558 Million Gross is too far from Top Spot Gone With the Wind's $1.485 Billion Gross...!!

So, it is unlikely for Avatar (need more than $800 Millions) to make it Top 10 in all time inflation adjusted list..!!!

Make again calculation adjust only 2-3% inflation in USA in terms of dollar. Film is made in USA and dollar has been called a world reserve currency to store against inflation (like as gold). Secondly, USA has mostly 2-3 % inflation so if this figure will be adjusted still it did WELL!!! 3 idiots is in India and from Sholay to 3 idiots if you will adjust inflation at 8 % it need 10 times more profit...

Thats the ideal way to watch movies. But unless movies are in the reach of people, these pirated DVDs will rule

If Titanic grossed 1.843 Billion ten years back then Avatar to beat Titanic has to gross more than double. Merely crossing 1.843 Billion doesn't help !! in short it means the movie is less than 50% in value compared to Titanic. Cost of tickets 10 years back were much less the then what we are paying today. If $ 1.843 was kept in the bank for say 8% interest – what would have been the value today. However in business 2 2 is not 4 it has to 6 or 7

Titanic had an estimated of 128 Millions tickets sold alone in US, compare to Avatar's 73 Millions till date...!!! While Gone with the Wind still hold the record tickets sold with more than 202 millions...!!

Consider recession into account. Those days to get money a movie has to run 100 days to call it succesful and still not enough, if many theaters do not show for 100 days. Nowadays, with multiplexes, a week run is quite adquate to earn the money if shows runs full house. Moreover, Titanic being good ran many days to reach the figure of 1.843 and over the period earned that money. Avatar is just 6 months baby and more weeks and years to go. Certainly, this will be the biggest grocer. And sales do not count, DVDs, BlueRays, which will come soon. Keeps your maths correct.

These figures are not inflation adjusted figures...If adjusted Gone with the winds will dwarf all of them. Its figure was $400.2 million in 1939.Yes..you read it right 1939.

Redo your calculations too. 10 years back how many people knew about torrents? How many people did illegal downloads of movie? How many people knew of Blu-Ray & Hi-Def DVDs? These are changed times and the movie has performed during recession. It has beaten all odds and it can definitely cross 2 billion dollars.

May be Avatar has got more collection than Titanic.
But still Titanic is a better film than Avatar, since it has touched the hearts of millions. Titanic left us in tears.

Titanic as a movie had nothing in it... except for the grand disaster towards the end... romance between the lead was only a gap filler before they could actually show the ship sinking...

If you compare Titanic with Avatar, artistically both are same, i.e. not good, but I would say Avatar is better over all... coz it is stronger technically N deals with a current problem (US takeover of the M-E)

So I beg to disagree with you... sorry... :)
