This movie is a big yawn
by Harsh Vyas on Feb 19, 2010 12:33 AM  | Hide replies

Guys, i am not any SRK basher. But let me tell you something very categorically. This movie sucks..Its so so boring that it can be recommended as a natural sleep inducer. And when i am writing all this its not to demean in any way the heart of the movie plot or SRK-kajol's performance. They are wonderful and so is the performance of Rizwaan's mother and his childhood self. But where this movie miserably fails is making the audience connect to its plot.K-Jo still needs some more films to trial and error his way out of the KKHH genre candy-floss styke of film making. SRK you are a great man, huge super star and india's most renowned face to the world but what we need you to do is not to pom-tom your stardom in every other scene of a pathetically scripted and plotted movie. We want you to please approach directors like Anurag Kashyap, Vishal Bhardwaj and let them use your talent stardom to give us viewers an unforgettable experience. (Much unlike the two very forgettable past releases of you.)
And rediff. Please give some authentic reviews or at least say some words of advice to readers rather than just 5 starring an SRK release.

i agree. i just wasted over two hours yesterday on this movie. the whole notion of an indian going saving an entire village in america is just stupidity at its peak. but with bollywood and the kind of crap they can come up with, i am not surprised. but yeah, the movie has nothing going for it. just my opinion.

Raja's Intent ?!?!?!?!
by surendra singh on Feb 18, 2010 01:48 PM

Raja, U know that the moview is based on his (SRK's)own problems that he had faced at one of the US airport while he went for his show. He was detained because he told his name as "MNIK" exactly. Just to prove his point again that he is not a terrorist or so, he and KJ decided to make a full fledged commercial movie with all masalas and that to protect this 'KHAN' buisness. This must be told to everyone cine-goer first and then to decided about the film and it's inherent message or so. But the fact is that ur rating for the film again is horrible. We do not agree to You.

SRK has been consistently successful in fooling the public

Only fools can believe such stories. The film is poor contentwise as well as depictionwise. Some people were comparing MNIK with 3 idiots. Infact, there is no comparision between the two Khans. A few pointers to this are as follows:-
1. Aamir makes films which are socially relevant, useful and entertaining. They have strong social message, strong characters and impressive depiction. Each time you watch his films, you tend to learn and enjoy more. On the other hand, SRK's film are virtual, away from reality and with no social relevance. Although, the latest MNIK had a social message, but it blew up in pieces the very next day of the bomb blast in Pune. SRK's films are uselessly entertaining at the best.
2. Aamir's films have brought social consciousness to the present youth as well as initiated reforms in some of our major institutions, like education system. SRK's films have created romeos all over the country which are bane for the progressive society and women folk.
3. Aamir's films are liked by people at large, while SRK's films are liked by people who are away from the society and play almost no role in it, who are emotionally weak and gullible.
4. SRK's films hit the silver screen only due to great marketing strategies while Aamir's films are enough to promote themselves. They do not need promotional strategies.
Now, let us decide whom to watch and whom to dump.

Why do you think Cinema should be socially relevant and intelligent? Why can it not be just pure entertainment? Ever heard of the word "Genre"? That's what 3 Idiots and MNIK is all about. And stop over thinking everything.. If you loved 3 Idiots that much, you should've come out with atleast that. Don't always strive for the best. Take what you can and leave the rest...

Why do you think Cinema should always be socially relevant and intelligent? Why can it not be just a good entertainer? If you loved 3 Idiots, and vouch for it's learning capacity, you should've come out learning that not everything needs to be perfect as long as it's your best. Don't be stupid and bash me up that I don't like Aamir or love SRK... I like 'em both.. i like Bollywood with all it's songs.. no pretensions. or hypocrisy

Kempt Killer
lets calculate - How MNIK is flop
by Kempt Killer on Feb 17, 2010 10:08 PM

The cost for MNIK is too high..100 cr for fox. Lets imagine it includes DVD and home video right. Still it need to have around 80 cr from DS ( India and Oversees combined). Seeing oversees market I think it can have 35 cr DS ( remember oversees number are gross and distributors get around 50% of it). So it need to get 45 cr DS ( i.e around 85 cr nett buisness) to recover it costs. For hit buisness all the numbers should be doubled in terms of distributor share.
