saw guru dutt pyasa on utube. i think he was a great film maker and actor. about his suicide, i have my doubts. he may have expired due to an accidental dose. my parents told me that when he died, food was not cooked in the house for 2days

I'm not so sure that was the reason...remember he was a highly inteligent and astute man...a film director/producer has to be. I think he may have been deranged due to financial problems, his regrets at his failed marriage, and competition from other directors etc....no matter how well they have done, geniuses always aspire to do better...and in the end that demon destroys them.

Yeah.In India artists always become a legend only after they die. Example: Guru Dutt, Satyajit Ray.
(Seeing a lot of confusion about Guru Dutt's origin's writing some facts about him.)
Gurudutt Padukone's roots are in the coastal belt of Karnataka, from south Kanara district (close to Udupi). His monther tounge is Konkani and he is a Saraswat Brahmin. It may also interest you to know he is a cousin of Shyam Benegal and his uncle is Swami Ramdas (called Papa) of Kanhangad. He spent a considerable amount of his formative years in Almore under Uday Shankar (bro of Ravi Shankar) and also in Calcutta. He broke his first name into 2 Guru Dutt. Due to the Dutt in his name and his Calcutta connection, ppl mistake him to be a bengali.
Why does rediff promote some unknown director or producer of the 60s?? Why can't rediff focus on well known director/producers like Ram Gopal Verma or BR Chopra??

Your thoughts completely compliment your name. Keep thinking this way and don't let anyone improve you...
The great VK Murthy is from Karnataka and now actually resides here at National College, Basavanagudi Area... Just a piece of information guys, no offence meant to anyone.
Guru Dutt was no doubt a great director. He may not be a legend according to some. But i cannot wipe the frame to frame scenes of Pyasaa and Kagaz ke phool. Both the films were master pieces of the Hindi film industry. No doubt on that. I do not understand how he was termed pessimistic. I understand his personal life was in very bad shape. He had failed in his love life. May be he had lots of internal pain and sorrow within him, which he was also able to effectively potray. His some other commercial films were also equally appreciable. We miss such dedicated and committed people.
