Raja sen is a bogus critic
by james rod on Nov 09, 2009 10:00 AM

Ajab prem..... movie is one of the most boring movies i have come across and sen gives a 3 1/2 star rating misleading the people. I am sure he is paid hihg time by the producers of the movie.... me and my friend circle have noted that lesser the star rating better the movie is.....

Responsible Journalism?
by shikha girgla on Nov 09, 2009 09:57 AM  | Hide replies

The days of responsible journalism are over. Well, the trend was started by the TOI group where 50 % of the articles in their supplement and some in the mainline were paid. I guess, rediff has also started follwing the trend. How would you explain 3.5 rating to movie like Ajab premm..where i was not even able to sit through the 1st 20 minutes of the movie and simultaneously an excelent movie like JAIL is given a poor rating. I agree an organisation has to generate their ad revenues but not at the cost of grossly misinterpresting the facts. How can you mislead the public? How can you live with your conscience after that.. words fail me. There was time when I used to swear by the rediff reviews.. but not anymore.. I guess the days of resposible journalism as clean politicians are clearly over... We cannot rely on anybody's judgment

Some of the facts you present here about TOI is something we can agree upon... like the revenues they have been generating by glorifying worthless cinema.... But the fact that you fail to see beyond psuedo realistic films like JAIL is indeed stupid... Madhur Bhandarkar is kind of overstaying its welcome by making these semi-vouyeristic movies about different banes of society ... I agree Chandni Bar , Page 3 and to a certain extent Corporate was good but Traffic Signal and Fashion (despite good performances by their protagonists) was very weak and Jail was overkill with Neil Nitin Mukesh and Mugdha Godse looking like two stone statues ... Also Madhur's insistence on cashing in on every controversy is getting irritating with every movie.... Add listless music to it and you have a very ordinary product... I think Raja is very generous to give even a 1 star rating to it...

Yes Ajab Prem is no Andaz Apna Apna where I was disappointed with its cliched storyline and not so amusing inducing sequences but what held the story was the crackling chemistry between Ranbir and Katrina ... Also Ranbir carried his role with much aplomb (and you can ignore Katrina's histronics cause you are busy figuring out how gorgeous she looks :)).... And add to it you have good music to content with .... 3.5 stars ... maybe u can take away that half a star from it and still its better than Jail...

Thank you so much Shikha. I wanted to comment so badly for few of the reviews given by Mr. Sen, but, I was just holding up for long...just cudn't stop it this time... Neil Nithin had done some blasting performance in it [he really shows us what 'Acting' means]...I am not saying that Ranbeer is bad (he is talented and he is the only ' ' thing in 'APKGK')...As you said; misleading public and showing deaf ears to our grievances is a bad thing that Mr. Sen is doing...

Seriously Reconsider - Frustrated Reader
by neetha vivek on Nov 09, 2009 09:30 AM  | Hide replies

Good morning!, I've wanted to make a comment on this reviewer since long time. But, this review really hit the nail and I am unable to hold my fingers giving out my thoughts. I read the review on movie 'Jail' by Raja Sen yesterday and now just finished the one on 'APKGK'. I saw both films myself and at one point I am clearly unable to comprehend what Mr. Sen’s trying to convey and really feel that he should open his eyes and cater to the reactions on his reviews. Out of say '50 responses', more than 40 mentions that he is 'BIASED'. And if any of the general public watches both these movies and read the 2 reviews by Mr. Sen will understand what I am saying now! Mr. Sen, being a layman myself with regards to the so called 'Critic Community'; I suggest you to give a little more heart to your upcoming reviews. The movie 'Andaz Apna Apna' happens once in a lifetime...your review suggests the movie 'APKGK' being in league with Andaz Apna Apna; any Blind person would try to stab you for this ridiculous comment! Rediff management should try to read a few of the "Readers Comments" so that they understand what kind of silly publicity is undertaken by utilizing their website...these kind of reviews spoils not only the fate of good movies, but it also spoils the image of the website that supports general public as well....Mr. Sen, it's high time you stop writing mindless comments; please take a few days break to read through the 'Public Comments' on your reviews! - By a Frustrated R

I completely agree with you. Of late i have seen some bizzare reviews from rediff. Imagine, I was in 2 minds after reading the Jail review but I relied on my instincts and still went ahead and really enjoyed the movie ..

Such a pathetic movie even seen
by Madhab Barma on Nov 09, 2009 09:30 AM

Rediff Reviewer seems to be the 100% paid reviewer. It was such a torture for us to spend $16.00 here in US and had to endure through those cheap "comedy" movie. Someone help Bollywood with better movies. Overall, this movie sucks big time!

It's a pathetic movie really...though as the reviewer says:
"Watch it through 80s-tinted glasses and you'll have an absolute ball."

It really seems as if Santoshi had written the script in the late 80's or the early 90's, and made the film now. And usually you go to see such movies so that you won't have to use your brains too much...and seeing the movie through 80's tinted glasses means using too much of our grey matter...

Waste of time. Rediff reviews are not genuine. It seems that Rediff is helping film makers by giving wrong ratings. This film is silly. Only kids will enjoy comedy. Movie is not at all good. Rajkumar santoshi should try his hand on children movies. I hardly saw anyone laughing in housefull show at cinemax ghatkopar. I would rate this movie is **.

Such a boring movie.Trailers look better than the whole movie as it has highlights of the film for about 5 mins.
Songs are good ,but not in age old dream song or duet formula.

Indian Express gave it one star
by pradeep nayak on Nov 09, 2009 04:02 AM

luckly before going to the theater I checked the Indian Express review and saved my gandhis. Now I want to know who paid the rediff reviewer to put another two and half stars - was it Raj Kumar santoshi's publicist or both the leads'?
