Is this the freedom?
by sky eyes on May 26, 2009 09:22 AM  | Hide replies

I read that in India we have the right to express the views. So is this order of SC valid?
Its not , we can watch hollywood movies in India where they slam their presidents with their names, use the four letter word for them but we can't see an indian filmmaker trying to express his views.
its a pity and shame. shoudln't SC leave the thought process to the people rather than deciding themselves that the National Anthem is dis-respected?

Right express views does not mean that you have right to tinker with the national anthem. Freedom of expression comes with great responsibility. Americans wear underwear with US national flag but NOT in India. Each country has its own culture, you have respect the law of the land.

when your mother is being violated hope you will ask to leave it to the people to judge whether it is right or wrong. that is freedom for you.

tagore's anthem for india irrelevant
by Anurag Rathore on May 26, 2009 09:12 AM  | Hide replies

indian national anthem is full of mistakes... it says of punjab and sindh, where half of punjab is in pakistan and all of sindh is in pakistan. so why should be sing praise of punjab and sindh? also anthem says dravida, giving only a common term to the whole of south india which is not correct.
the present anthem was written before independance when both india and paki was together. its better to bring a new anthem written by gulzar using most of the tagore's lyrics.

hey rathore first understand the national anthem and then comment...the mere utterence of the word sindh does not solely means a region in pakistan, it also means those regions near and surrounding sindh or sindhus eventually Indus which eventually became India under the British Raj.....it seems Tagore is full of mistakes...and u r here to point it out for us...lol

RGV may be right?
by arun bn on May 26, 2009 08:59 AM  | Hide replies

I haven't heard what he has given in the film.....however if something is wrong in our anthem, then we have to accept the fact......I accept out national anthem was written by great Rabidranath Tagore.......but he can also make mistake as he is also Human being.......Let us see how RGV has described and then we can judge whether it is correct or not.

The SC has read it, seen it, heard the counsels opinion for and against the case. It has come to the conclusion that the sequence in the film is not in good spirit. You think this is not enough. By your argument every case that comes before the court needs to be judged by the people.

its bullshit...
by bhaba das on May 26, 2009 07:36 AM

RGVerma has no right to distort something written by the great Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, something which we has been close to our hearth from childhood. Instead he should have created something new to show how we have deviated from our national anthem. That would have been more apt.

You dont need to tinker with the anthem to tell about the situation of the natrion. Gulzar wrote Ghapla hai and Hamara Hukmaraan madmast hai when he had to show the national frustration.

Besides, the song was tasteless, as if made with great effort, not finding right lines.

RGV and National Anthem
by Nazir Patel on May 26, 2009 04:59 AM

RGV is wrong. Period. When there are so many lyricists around surely a new composition could have been appropriate to express the frustrations against the nations alleged ills instead of twisting the national anthem. Shame.

Arun Jaitley completely loses it.

No one can tinker or potter around with national anthem. If you want a new anthem, then let's debate. But while this is not happening, hands off. No one can tinker with national flag as well, and what the nationalist parties are doing is by not decorating it with blings .

Complete nonsense by Judicial branch
by Rajeev Aggarwal on May 25, 2009 10:52 PM  | Hide replies

Since when does SC start deciding good and bad, positive and negative. Its job is to interpret the law of the land in full fairness and to protect the rights of its citizens. They are right in figuring out that RGV's version is totally negative. But using this explanation to bury the guy? Are you kidding? If so, it is a very cruel and sad joke. Let me understand... SC slams RGV because he is pointing out the negatives in our society!!!! And SC is the one suppressing him? It is unbelievable that we call ourselves a democracy. It sounds more like a dictatorship where no individual has any right to tell the truth if it is not in line with the givernment. In those countries, judicial branch is a sub-ordinate to the government and its sole job is to protect the government from people. In a democracy, it is supposed to be the other way. What a shame!!!!

If he is tinkering with National anthem then its job well done by supreme court to denounce it. He should be tried for fooling around with national anthem. and Your Mr Rajeev "Mr. Freedom of speech".. you do the same thing in other foreign country, you will be put to death, including in USA which is father of "freedom of speach".

Re: Re: Complete nonsense by Judicial branch

Interesting response. The part which touched me is the blind devotion we suddenly seem to have for making the words as a sacred object. For starters, our national anthem is not even Indian and it does not even praise India. It is a bland poetry which was written to please King George (Bharat Bhagyavidhata) to curry favour (to butter our English masters). After independence, we inherited English slaves (Congress party, Nehru...) in charge of our democracy who gladly continued this song as our national anthem. If anybody on this post has any doubt on this, please do some research on the origin of our national anthem. In any case, this whole debate indicates how we treat the dead words as sacred whereas we feel it is okay to have millions of cases pending in our courts for many decades because we do not have enough people in judicial branch to handle them. The sad part is that on this kind of trivial case, our courts have suddenly enough people to handle the case. I am not a blind fan of Freedom of Speech. I suspect that RGV deliberately did it to earn publicity. It hurts to see how we let our judicial system become a toy in the hands of some people by directing our resources to handle these trivial situations with the sense of extreme urgency and importance. If you try to look at it rationally, you would find that if SC had rejected this case itself, it would not have become big news and we might not even have took it as any insult to our sensibilities.

Mr. Aggarwal i agree with you regarding SC decision going against RGV, offcourse he has the right of his freedom of speech, i heard the new song from the film promos "rann", i found that he didnt demean our anthem, may b SC is bit harsh on him...but pls stop your non-sense talk about the history of our national anthem and its relevance and stop misguiding us, citizens of India...who will read our post in this board....coz people like us who truly knows the relevance of our national anthem and have been learning and growing on it since kindergartens will not be convinced by your bull-shit talk!!!
