Bollywood comes of age. Right from the creative opening credits to the nail-biting finish, the movie is thoroughly entertaining! Can't remember having so much fun watching a Hindi movie recently.
That IS the reason we all go to movies. To walk out entertained. And that simplistic point is lost in convoluted theories and philosophies that people discuss at lengths about characters, backstories, motives blah blah.
One that entertains you without ridiculing your intelligence is what makes a true entertainer. And i readily agree with everything you wrote and the simplicity within your reasoning. And for the same reason i loved this out of the blue film, 99! And kudos to the makers - great film!
I saw the film in California. I absolutely loved it! It's one of the best films to come out of Bollywood in the recent past - ok, counting Dev D (which I watched on DVD) - it is one of two best.
When I read the earlier rediff review, I was baffled! Even New York Times gave a terrific thumbs up to the film, another major American magazine also gave it 3.5 stars (Box Office Magazine or something)!
Anyway I am happy this excellent film got its due. It definitely deserves 3.5 or 4 stars.
That's how the shorty Kuber would say it in 99. I love that guy and his huge righthand man. What an instant classic this film is. Each and every character can be made into a comic book or something. For once rediff guys got it right. This film needs full applause. "I like it" :)
How old are you? Only 5 year old kids find a man running into a pole or a man slipping on a banana funny. True comedy is hard, writing comedic dialogues is hard work. Who made this guy a reviewer?
