India does not deserve better
by Ravi Gulla on Mar 30, 2009 02:07 PM  | Hide replies

Indians project this image to the world and the world sees India like this.

It is up to us to change this view not by abusing the people who see us like this but to improve our image slowly and steadily. We have lost 60 years since independence.
Are we planning to loose more time is what we should ask ourselves.

Good point. We, Indians, must work together to improve the country and its image. The software guys did a bit of image-lifting. But, others need to pitch in too. Let us not waste anytime on petty issues and do our best.

An ordinary movie.....
by B M on Mar 30, 2009 02:02 PM  | Hide replies

SDM is a very very ordinary movie. The fact that this movie has got so many Oscars proves that bribery and corruption is rampant in the Academy Awards selection process.

Tare Jameen Par was a much better movie than SDM.

every genre of movie has its own class. and they maintainn it.SDM was meant to be mainstream and attract mass and also finance. In that case TPZ cannot be compared to many world class movies in Italian,Spanish and other languages. If you do attend international film festivals u can understand that. Please try to attend one of them. and see the difference b/w TPZ and others of the same level.try to appreciate wen somebody does a gud work.We indians hae a habit of always project the Good and hide the reality. Can u stay in any indian railway station without cursing the dirty condition of the place. However,if tomorrow somebody takes a movie on it,everyone will start growling and complaining. When Devdas was hailed and sent to Oscars nobody protested that this is not the real india. How many indian middle class lady can afford a dress worth 5 lakhs or more ?? how many middle class family has such huge mansions as houses and in which family do u have 1000 of poeple coming together to celebrate. We all boast of nuclear family and all now rite.

Rigthly said ! It cannot be compared to a sensitive & meaningful movie like TZP. Wonder how it bagged so many oscars when our previous nominations did not even stand a chance. Any movie depicting Indian poverty does well at the oscars example being Salaam Bombay which created quite a stir. Also, A.R.Rahman himself would acknowledge that he has given far far better music in the past & slumdog is his worst composition till date. Slumdog is CRAP & everyone involved in making this crap, SUCKS !

In you view, AR Rahman's composition in SDM is sick. So let out ur views, so keep ur mouth shut. What do u wanna go around speaking crap about it. When was the last time u heard a song like "Paper Planes" in Indian music? The problem is that u have listened to his hindi and tamil songs since childhood days and one day when he composed an award winning musical for an english movie, ur finding it hard to digest and you go about comparing it to his hindi and tamil songs. My friend, there is something called as "CHANGE". You are not changing but Rahman has. People who do not accept change and are happy with the present will reach nowhere in life. Accept people for their achievement even though you havent received it. Someone right said "India is a country with diverse culture and language and the only country where people hate each other". Now you know why

AR Rahman has given better scores ,I agree. But that wasn ot for a movie that had international influence.Oscars are awarded to a movie which satisfies the follwoing condition.Today, according to Rules 2 and 3 of the official Academy Awards Rules, a film must open in the previous calendar year, from midnight at the start of January 1 to midnight at the end of December 31, in Los Angeles County, California, to qualify."
The award was given,in comparison to other compositions and not in coparison with his own previous works..
AR Rahman is the best.

Not worth for an Oscar Award
by timesblog on Mar 30, 2009 01:53 PM  | Hide replies

I donot think that Slumdog Millionaire was a great movie. There are lot of other hindi movies which were well directed and really deserves an OSCAR. Slumdog Millioanire won oscar award because of the following reasons:
1. Directed by Britisher
2. The movie had a message that Indians are crazy after movie idol. The young boy jumps in shit to take an autograph of Amitabh Bachan
2. BPO work are done by duffers(Jamal takes the call in call centre although he was not formally trained)
All the whites really enjoyed this movie as it reflected Indians to be poor, dirty, cray and duffer.

Whats wrong with that?

1. The director is a britisher.
2. indian are crazy about movie idols. They are reaaly mad about them.
3. BPO work done does not require much of your head. Its known to all.

Mr Manish Kumar. I do agree that the movie was directed by britisher, indians are crazy after movie idols and you donot require great talent to work in BPO. What I want to say is that there are lot of movies which are better than Slumdog Millionaire but never got an Oscar Award. Slumdog Millionaire do not deserves an Oscar. this is my personal view. Ok, every one is free to pass his comments.

first point... Its not given to Idnian movies largely because the jury is not indian and they have to watch the movie to judge it.Also the rules of Oscars goesliek this"Today, according to Rules 2 and 3 of the official Academy Awards Rules, a film must open in the previous calendar year, from midnight at the start of January 1 to midnight at the end of December 31, in Los Angeles County, California, to qualify.".SO if the movies that u refered as hindi dint release in los angeles they cannot win the oscar.
Point 2...Very recently there was an incident which proves of how sane we indians are when come to movie star idolship.I would liek to you to go the ocassion of Rajkumar?s death or before that when he was kidnapped by Veerappan. If you are not aware of that crises during these situations request you to check for the newspapers of the time.
