He is talented no doubt but not a cut above the rest when it comes to melody and creativity.I would rank Ilaiyaraja and Laxmikant pyarelal as India's truly gifted composers.And most certainly Slumdog doesn't deserve oscar no not even filmfare awards.

you people are forgetting one thing, Illayaraja & Lakshmikant Pyarelal did not participate in competition of OSCAR, Rahman went there and won Just be happy that one of our guyz went and won there your comparisons would be worth if all of them had submitted their best songs & if Rahmaan won that
