Why do Indians have a low opinion about themselves. Treat a film as a work of art. No one will malign as the Westerners are not morons and would swallow whatever is shown to them. Remember we cannot ignore the fact that there are slums in our country and we cant sweep them under a carpet or hide them from the world media. You cannot stop anyone filming the situation and declare the fact that Indians would be called Slum Dogs. As regards Mr B's comments..he is just jealous that he was not in the film. If he had been in it, then he would have praised it!!

you go to UK , USA....They will tell you Slumdogs....offcourse we know that slumdwellers are there in our country but can you tell me one thing ...How many films have been made by Americans on the conditions of poor people, beggars etc. of their own country....i dont recall a single name...its easy to point out mistakes and shown shortcomings of others but when it comes to yourself, you are hesitant...had the film benn made by indians , i am sure we wouldnt have got awards....

Rakesh..u have a very low opinion of yourself. I have traveled the world and I am sure they have sense not to call us any names. There are many American movies which shows real facts and lives of real people. American movies are not glamorized like our movies showing comfy lives of rich spoilt brats. We Indians want movies away from reality and paint a rosy picture as we are not bold to face the reality.
Yes, Big B can be jealous as KBC was the show that made him a corerpati and saved him from bankruptcy.

Naina you have to live and compete in work with them to understand the true colour of white character until then we wont understand them .I lived and worked in UK for 7 years ,Just an example when India launched its satellite to moon last year i happen to see the news in BBC a journalist was standing near to a slum in delhi and he was reporting has " When india is struggling to provide basic facilities to its citizens ambitious india is launching its satellite to moon".It is a very sarcastic statement .If your country is poor you should not compete with us in science and technology that is what they mean.This movie should have been banned in India1!!.It is a racist movie!! When the westerners start loosing the skilled jobs to india they will start picking up poverty and blown out of proportion. Time will change !!

What a shame ! form big b to every indian ( living in cities) are just crying that why did west see them as poor poor pooor . No one is talking about child molestation, child labor, sexual abuse, rape of under 18 actually under 16. India is a third world country and it looks really dirty to westreners. Sorry Mr big B Slums like india doesn't exist in the west and on THE TOP you can't touch a child in west. Parents get arrested for hitting kids forget about strangers and police hitting/ abusing kids. In west you will not find anyplace where under 18 girls are for sale. I agree....rather complaining about the movie and the "name" of the movie... why not people of India work on improving the status, rather complaining what the world would call us(Indians).....
Slumdog Millionaire is based on India, performed by Indians and has a desi story just narrated in english. It got awards cos the promoters/partners are foreigners. You see, If a desi story can get so much accolades then India truly has a lot of potential as there have been many movies which are better than Slumdog. If movies like Roja, A Wednesday, Aamir, Yuva, RDB and others had forigners associated with then they would have received many awards. We just release the movies in USA & UK but don't actually promote them. If we translate them to english and promote actively then awards are for sure.

Mr amitabh says that venice,cannes etc gives importance only to movies which depict India as 3rd world. But he says that Bollywood superhits, which comes under happy-go-lucky,escapist are always ignored and has to battle against the Indian arthouse cinema. I dont think he's completely wrong. While Mr bachan may dislike makes like Ritu ghosh,aparna sen,adoor G etc, there are also some really good commercial movies which have pleased all critics. Hope the Indian film federation takes note of Mr amitabhs comments.

They entertain only their own Escapist cinema liek James Bond, Spiderman, Sleeping Tiger, Titanic, Jurrassic Park, Independence Day, Bridget Jones Diary, King Kong, Godfather and thus shower all awards on them...and when it comes to India...they say we make escapist cinema!!! These award functions are actually a big example of hippocratism prevailing around the world. We Indians need to learn and understand that we dont need their certificate for our work. We enjoy more our Indian actors Kamal hassan, Rajni and Amitabh than any ching chong or Brad Pitt.
You just need to portray India like this and win accolades! Show how jhuggis actually define modern india where small children are sodomized and win Salam Bombay! Show Indians as sex obsessed filthy creatures and win Kamasutra. Show endless corruption, laugh at Hindu Gods and portray India a land of tribals with snakes and cows on road...win Oscars!
There is absolutely no pride associated anymore with these award function.....those who are feeling proud of this that India got Global fame and recognition with these awards are silly creature who are actually understanding a defamation as fame! Global Defamation!!!

You are right! 'The White Tiger' won the Booker....it's just the same...It portraits India as a third world country...slums, brothels, poor taxi drivers who chews pan always, their black teath's etc...that's what in Aravid Adiga's White Tiger, which won the Booker prize. Though most the things were real...the good side of India was not given due importance.. Jai Hind!
Rahman got award for complete original background score , not for 'jai ho'..Indian media is not understanding anything.. infact best song was from 'wrestler'..

whatever...why he didnt got award for his earlier backround scores which were much much better than this...hear Roja songs , see the movie ...there are other good movies of AR Rehman in Tamil as well as in Hindia which deserved award for background score but what happened....has it got ...message given to us by westerners: employ us and we will get you awards...i ma sure we will continue to get awards like these but only when westerners make indian films..thats the truth...i am 100% sure on it...
Westerners want to potray poor image of India in front of international community as rightly indicated by Mr. Bachhan....With this movie they did three things to malign india...first, they show india in poor light by showing the plight of slumdwellers to prove that india still live in slums....second, they tried to show that india is simply not cared abount slumdwellers and their conditions are not improving....thirs, westerners told us that look ..if we make a movie on indian stories, then only the movie will get awards and if an indian makes the movie, the movie will not get any award (many indian movies in past deserved awards but they didnt get any.why??) ..they tried to prove their superiority on indians and we get fooled...they tried to show that they are still the best and we are still novice....think again..why it got award...watch the movie ...its good but compare it with earlier in indian movies...you will get the clue...

facts are ok but conditions are not so bad....who gave them the right to show India in poor light...who gave them the right to malign India...Does india still lives in slums...My friend, for your info, India and China are the two growth engines of the world...if we are still living in slums , then hw we are doing it...off course the conditions for slum dwellers has to be improved more but it dosent means that people from other country come here and make pictures on slumdwellers, farmers, beggars etc...how many films made by westerners show that Indians have improved a lot...why they dont tell that Indians are one of the largest customers for them in the wworld...why they dont tell that GDP and growth rates of India are highest in the world.....becoz they want to get awards on making films on conditions of people from other countries...America also has beggars...how many films ahs come in America to show their conditions...any answer

First thing we dont need any one from west to appreciate what we do!!
