suprised !!!!
by Guest on Jan 15, 2009 10:24 PM  | Hide replies

I am surprised that why rediff has not posted any direct article on Big B's comment. Generally they are the first ones to post any controversial comment by a celebrity. Some how i feel media is suppressing this story. Wondering what the reason could me. Btw, i fully agree with Big B.

Mostly slumdog's producers have bought them over to avoid any negative publicity before release of the film.

What a shame ! form big b to every indian ( living in cities) are just crying that why did west see them as poor. India is a third world country and it looks really dirty to westreners. Sorry Mr big B Slums like india doesn't exist in the west and on THE TOP you can't touch a child in west. Parents get arrested for hitting kids forget about strangers and police hitting/ abusing kids. In west you will not find anyplace where under 18 girls are for sale. Indians have no idea of sexual molestation. In India/ pakistan we celebrate affairs and sex with under 18. For west it is statutory rape. In west,No one shit and piss on streets. I don't know why big B an dother are stuck on poverty here.

Spidey Guy,

No the way Aamir Khan in Ghajini is showed is true or the way Raichand family in KKKG is protraying India. I have watched the movie but i think you need to go Mumbai and visist these slums. India has 60% poverty rate. The reasons that we have all these slums is cause people completely ignore that part of our country. Movie was meant to make Mumbai look bad but was about the hope that keeps these kids going. They have lost everything they could in life but have not given up in life yet.

Guru Dutt was better director. Tapan Sinha's film had better photography. And Satyajit Ray's films like DEVI, Apur Sansar had best direction. Dear foreign media and critics, do not feel Ray was not equivalent to any Hollywood directors.

I think The LAST LEAR Is best film. but it was not sent or nominated.

If not for Danny Boyle
by destiny on Jan 15, 2009 07:44 PM  | Hide replies

If any Indian director would have made this movie then I am very much sure that this movie would'nt have got even 1 nomination... Its because of Danny Boyle being a famous Scottish/British director and who has made world class movies like "Trainspotting"... So this guy already has an amazing name in world cinema due to which recognizing his work has been easy in the world class awards

Stop hating guys. First of all, this movie was NOT made by an Indian and we indians like to run away from reality and like to watch fantasy movies so no one will even make one

If Bollywood made this film.

1. The boy would be a millionaire who comes to the show on a Helicopter
2. Father is in London searching for a girl to marry his son off!
3. But the son likes another rich man's daughter
4. Then five songs with different tunes, locations and dresses
5. The boy wins the million!
6. Tells his father he rates love more than any million (climax)
7. Marries and one more song

Alternate plot...

Hrithik Roshan plays the poor boy - but wears a Rolex watch and some designer clothes designed by Manish malhotra. Dont even ask about the buffed-up body and the six/eight/twelve pack.

Poor boy loves rich girl

Poor boy gets to be a contestant in the show.

Rich girls father pays money to show host to make sure the boy loses.

Poor boy wins million.

Father and Show host gets angry and a big fight breaks out (complete with blasts and total carnage). By the way, father has an army of extras fitted with guns and grenades.

Boy beats the shit out of all.

Boy also finds the man who killed his mother and avenges her death.

Now that all bases are covered...Boy and girl elope.

(Fit in a song shot somewhere in Europe anywhere in plot - because the Hrithik's contract has specified it as a minimum requirement).

The review has shown scant respect to Amitabh and has completely ripped, him and the Bollywood style of movies, to shreds!

Dissapointing to read it as an Indian...but the fact is that almost all of it is true.

Why such ahigh for this film in India

It is a film made by a foreigner the why such a hype is created by the indian media? If the movie gets an Oscar, then too it wont be for India, it would be only for the Foreigner who has made the film......

only a foreigner is capable of making this film .
"Bachchan's blinkered comments prove how hopelessly blind he and most of Bollywood are to the reality of India and how wholly incapable they are of making films that can address it. Instead, they produce worthless trash like Jaane Tu, Rock On!! and Love Story 2050, full of affluent young Indians desperately, and mostly idiotically, trying to look cool and modern."
