Indians will always be slavish

I Salute Indian wins BUT not the filmWe continue to revel in the success of a film that shows India ONLY negatively. Is there absolutely anything that conveyed a speck of positiveness about India in that movie?

Was Slumdog music even half as good as Lagaan ? Can you compare Rin-Rin-Rinna OR Jai-Ho to ANY songs of Lagaan (also by Rehman)
All you see is the Oscar. The movie & its intent does'nt matter.

All this is western propaganda to show that India is a shithole (& missionaries are our uplifters. Exactly the same holds about Calcutta)
But that's nothing new, Canada's last year entry was John Abraham's movie Water that pictured prostitution in Benares.
If it had won @ Oscar's you would have revelled about a movie bringing GLORY to India.

It is a well-made & hard hitting movie, but the subtle anti-India proaganda is terrible.
My problem is that it ONLY shows the negative side..

Heck.. 18 yr old Jamaal knows Benjamin Franklin but not Gandhiji (who incidentally has a positive image in the West) What it conveys to Western audiences is that Gandhiji & his teachings are irrelevant in his own country.
Thats senseless denial of positives isnt it??

Then theres a middle-class Sardaji with family who pushes two 8 year-old kids down a train, coz they stole a chapati. Thats India to Western audiences

Now 8 Oscars put a mark of authenticity on that. Isnt that propaganda?
Contd...

Can anyone please explain why Canada nominated Indian film 'Water' (which portrays prostitution in Benares) as its entry for Best Foreign film? To the uninitiated, Canada is not an Indian state though it sound like Kannada LOL
(Does that sound like missionary propaganda through secular eyes) My friend the film was shot in Srilanka. Canada changed a rule that its entry for Oscars should be in the official language of the country. All this, so that Water could be nominated from Canada. Check timesofindia. Do intellectuals get blindsided to common sense in India or WHAT??

Mother Teresa flush with funds from rich Western countries works for orphans (who are coincidentally converted/raised as Christians). She gets a Nobel Peace Prize. Beatified as a SAINT
Baba Amte with almost no funding, works among Lepers his whole life. Forget Nobel, he is not known even among Indians.

Maybe Soniyaji should have given away Kashmir to Pak. She wud get the Nobel Peace prize & you guys will revel in the GREAT achievement.
Indians just cant get out of the yoke of slavery.
You guys YUCK!!

Not slavish my friends the actual word should be "beggars cannot be choosers". We will always be shown as beggars and from the city of joy to "slum dog whatever" we are poor and we third class citizens. Only the westerners have come from heaven and reformed us. We cannot do anything our own. If we form a religion they say it is not good. When they present it is very good. If you see carefully we use to perform yogas here it was not popular but when it was made in America and britain now they it gives them mental calm and they some how have attained peace of mind. In almost all the cities there are yoga classes. This is what will happen to us. If we go and learn yoga then that will be the irony. When we are Indians and in India we don't learn it but when we are in America we adopt to whatever they say. Again the saying "beggars cannot be choosers" holds perfectly right.
Even if the movie is depicted as slums oriented what are we doing nothing. The moment the plane lands in mumbai any westerners sees is slums. All the developmental stuff such as chandrayan are not even considered in this MSNBC channel here. What they are saying is this country(India) cannot even take care of the people in slums they are thinking of moon and mars.
Don't be surprised if some day they discover that the whole of the western philosophy is based on vedas and gita but it has been presented in a western style.
When we preach religion it is considered as garbage but the westerner says enlighten

What so ever depicted in movie is almost true abt India but we are like this only we have from slum to 7 star hotels. Crowded bus to Underground Metro. Uneductaed to scholars. Untill unless we as a individual take a resp. to improve upon India it will be like this and continued till eternity.

Anil Kapoor is always great
by padman on Feb 27, 2009 03:20 AM  | Hide replies

i like anil kapoor and rated him as best actor much better than kahn (except amir) and AB. I have seen many films from his debut (kannada) to late 2003. I have noticed last few years he didn't justify his talent and acted on few cheap, characterless role. I wish him work on film that give him unique identity in the film industry. Good luck with your future.

The guy who played javed bhai role did ex cellent job and infact he is the part of the film seems disappeared and irfan khan and anil kapoor is part of narration of the story more like cameo role. While irfan is calm and composed anil kapoor acting like cheap and childish. We like our people to be recognised all over the world and get oscars or any major award but do not require approvel from anybody.

Anil Kapoor has always been known to be a cheap publicity seeker and manipulator. This is the reason why despite being one of the best actors, he has always been the 'could have been' superstar. He still continues to shamelessly seek publicity as if he is the one who has won the Oscar.

Hollywood has at least one awards on a per day basis. Also in the US yesterday's new is Yesterday's. Today's news takes importance. Since we have very little achievements we tend to blow it up and celebrate it as much as possible.

Because God knows when the next news like this will be.

Moral of this story
by samba on Feb 26, 2009 09:01 PM  | Hide replies

This is not about Anil kapoor. We need to base our lives and the story (movie) based on a srtrong writen script. Then we are considered as realistic people. Our bollywood does not get any recognition because it just simply copying movies from others and basically there is no writers(making another entertainment movie is what the award selectors think). What they do is just play the cassette of the movie and do some sterotypes. Stop adding masala and forget about appealing to the masses. Don't worry about box -office and flops. Think about a good and strong story line.We don't encourage people to be creative. Our creativity is lost the moment we tried to adopt to the western way of thinking.
Anil kapoor of course he will jump to sky because he has accepted a role which others had rejected. He was not worried about his image. He took it as a challenge. Whereas shah rukh khan was always worried about him being portrayed as a villain(image problem). He always wants to be a good guy.
Now that the path is set we can always make movies with strong storylines without adding unnecessary masala. But we should please the hollywood too much and give up our identity.
Wish all the actors (child and adults) all the best for their future.
Hope children get good education more than the flat which the government is giving them. It is just an instant fame. The fame needs to come in stepds. Have good education otherwise you will fall down easily.
