Threat?
by Zaki on Feb 27, 2009 07:18 PM

Had his movie been made by Bollywood, then instead of slum children, the role would have been played by some star children, and I get the feeling that this movie may have truly rattled Bollywood industry per se, since it brings the big Hollywood studios directly into the Indian market on a subject that would appeal to those on the fringes of soceity. Bollywood is taking it as a threat but all in all its a uplifting story that may be considered as a true crossover film and which would certainly pose a threat to the established dynastic hierarchies in Bollywood, having demonstrated the ability to uncover award winning talent from the slums of India's city of dreams! And this is what dreams are all about!

he has insulted the great religion islam just to gain attention.and he is no authority to say anything about a movie.

criminals like rushdie must be avoided as much as possible.

Art has no external rules. But Art works within the rules set by itself.

If it breaks those rules, then it fails as a film.

That's what happend to Slumdog.

If dog is set in the slum, it should adhere to the rules of slum.

But this one acts like a realistic portrayal of slums with fantastic events whic only a westener believes.

I said i before and I'm saing it now. This film is an attempt to racially vilify Indians.

Rushdie ran for his life when some old mullah growled from 1000 miles away. What a gallant knight! Danny Boyle will make sure to get Rushdie's advice & blessing before making another film. You think?

India is not a poor country.
by Kundan on Feb 25, 2009 11:30 PM

There are rich, heartless people in India. India is not the country of the poor. Amitab donated a diamond studded gold crown that was worth 50 million to the tirupati temple. Movies should show only such people. Also only such people must be made to act in movies.

I don't know why all those people who are raising concerns that SDM is so and so and so...forget that it is based on a novel written by Vikas Swarup, if poverty or glorifying poverty is a problem then why didn't we shout out when the book(Q&A) was released, remember Aravind Adiga who won the booker prize for the white tiger very recently also cashed in on the same theme(vaguely), why don't we shout out at politicians who use poverty as one of the main agendas to cash in on the votebank....well...we are almost like the stupid common man(ala Nasserudin Shah in A wednesday) who is busy with rozi roti and not bothered about what's happening except when some movie like SDM or a novel like the white tiger hurts our ego of people from a poor nation(India is still considered a poor country with rich people)...overly dependent on US/Europe markets and when america/uk markets have cold india sneezes. We need a change of mindset, a change in the system to be better not movies like SDM or a novel like White tiger.
