by ria kh on Feb 25, 2009 04:46 PM  | Hide replies

Slumdog Movie is neither pride for India Nor Shame.

Indian Slums are a shame for India and None of the Well Fed and Well Read people of India are bothered about the Slums.
Now they have suddenly woken up " HOW DARE YOU SHOW OUR SLUMS ?"
None of the Well Fed and Well Read people have said " LETS ERADICATE THE SLUMS"
THEY JUST WANT TO ERADICATE >> DANNY BOYLE

That is true. Govt gives them housing, they sell them and go back to slums. India needs to take strict actions in controlling the population and educating people.

Criticise Slumdog & Grab Media attention
by ria kh on Feb 25, 2009 04:22 PM

There are two ways to get famous.
1. Get famous by creating works which people like.
2. Get famous by criticising famous works.

Salman Rushdie seems to be feeling jealous of seeing others in the limelight. so he seems to have found a way out.
THESE DAYS ANYONE WHO WANTS TO GET FAMOUS/NOTICED just has to write some Negative BLA BLA BLA about slumdog and next day your name will be in headlines.

Oscar to Slumdog Millionnaire – Shame to India
by VILAS P on Feb 25, 2009 04:13 PM  | Hide replies

If our people produce some film & show something against the british, our people will not get any award. Example Lagaan. Or even if our people show our own reality, they will not get any award. Example : Marathi film Tingya. Both were nominated from India for Oscar. Not only these films, Taare Zameen Par is one more, raced for Oscar.

One more thing, these some foreigners should know that, India is a developing country, education-level is very low and Engineering, Science, Technology and so on are not in our blood. We copy these from them & are adapting to our best-knowledge. Our people are still learning to have better life, inspite of poverty & corrupt conditions. And these developed people should help countries like us to come-up, rather than showing us like this, if they wish.

My worry is “ Why an outsider call us “DOG” & show us in a cultureless manner to the World ? and why are we allowing ? “

It is simple VILAS P.
We do behave like dogs, just throw a bite towards us and our tongues hang out.
If some thing happens in stead of standing up to we just run away with our tail between our legs.
It is us and our behavior that makes us look like dogs and the producer had guts to say it openly.
We are laughing stock of the world.
WE CALL OURS ELF GREAT BUT THERE IS NO GREATNESS IN US.
WE COULD NOT GET RID OF THESE SLUMS FOR 60 YEARS AND IT WILL TAKE US ANOTHER 60 YEARS JUST TO REALISE THAT WE HAVE SLUMS.
AND PERHAPS ANOTHER 100 YEARS BEFORE WE START DOING SOME THING ABOUT THEM.
ADMIT IT OR NOT.
THE FAULT IS OURS AND OURS ALONE.

Absolutely true Vilas. We do no that there is poverty in India, there are slums in India. But thats not it. India do have a lot other positive things which can be shown to the other world. And the poverty in India; along with WE Indians, these GORAS are equaly to be blamed as these looted us for almost 150 yrs. Again they are earnign acolades for themselves by showing it to the world. If this film would have been directed and produced by an Indian along with Gulzar and Rehman on board; I am sure we wouldn't have won the oscars. Gulzar and Rehman are Genius and they do not need an oscar to prove that. Again Mr.Anil Kapoor is trying to publicise himself using the film's publicity.

And who allowed them to loot us ask our ancestors.
It was them who were after white skin (and we are still fascinated with it.
It was there golden dreams offered to us we fell for without thinking.
We are still in that dream and haven't woken from it.
An advantage taker will take advantage of any one who will allow it to be taken and we did so.
LIKE IT OR NOT THE FAULT LIES WITHIN OUR SELF.

Caucasions is genetically superior race but that does not mean that they can humiliate others. Just like Asians should not humiliate Africans. If you just look around you will find people who are genetically superior humiliating and making fun of those who are weaker.

Oscar to Slumdog Millionnaire – Shame to India

These foreign film producers think that we are inferior to them & we are like Slum Dogs. Long back when our Shri Jameshedji Tata was not allowed in the Watson Hotel, saying that “this hotel is not for Dogs”, he determined & built the Taj Hotel. But, now, our people are ready to get called “Dog” by these foreigners. I don’t understand, why our people are so crazy about this award. Is it the only measure to recognize anybody’s work. Rather, I would suggest, our film people to start an award, which is superior to that & ask them to follow us. May be this is my dream !!!.

Our film personalities, who got the award, are celebrating the, so called, success. No doubt, these people are very much talented & can do wonders. But, they would have done this through a Very –Own Indian film. They would have NOT worked under a foreigner to show the Indian conditions. A R Rahman’s composition for ‘Jai Ho’ is not so good compared to his own earlier best-compositions. What I feel, the Oscar team has deliberately selected this film & given the award for showing the India in such a bad manners. This foreigner Danny Boyle has used our own people to show our own slums, like the Britishers used our own people to kill our own people, long back in the history. History is repeating ; in a different way. People like Loveleen Tandan, Anil Kapoor, Dev Patel, Frieda pinto, and others would have not acted in this film. They have helped Britishers to s

well said; 100% agree with you. First of all, why our people accepted to shoot this film in India? that itself was a blunder mistake; next was, why our own people accepted the offer to act in this film? Don't we have our own self-respect? We(Indians) have to blame ourself for this. Why are we still encouraging these Slums in our country? Can't we build a decent home for our own people? Its in the attitude of our own people to live like this in slums. Many years back one westerner critizied "India is an Open Toilet"; its true even now. nearly 80% of INdia's populations don't have proper toilet facility which is a basic thing for every citizen. Its India's shame, it's Indian Government's shame that even this kind of basic amenity is not yet provided to every citizen in this country. We are have to be blamed for these things. When will we learn? When will we wake up?

Oscar to Slumdog Millionnaire – Shame to India
by VILAS P on Feb 25, 2009 04:11 PM

This is not fair to award the Slumdog…… to INDIA.

This film is produced & directed by an English person and shown the Indian Slums very bad. Some foreigners always show the bad things from India. Many of the documentaries in BBC & CNN channels will also capture the slums & poor living styles of India. They feel happy by showing the poverty of India to the world.

In this film also, they have shown the slum culture & underworld culture of India & they called us “DOG”. What I feel, they have produced this film to show the world that “ How Our India is? “ and awarded with Oscar deliberately, so that the entire world should see this film, thinking that an OSCAR awarded film will be watched by huge population. And our people, celebrate & enjoy the award, as if they produced & got the award.

Slumdog Millionaire is certainly misleading the West.
by Ravi on Feb 25, 2009 03:50 PM  | Hide replies

This movie has created an ugly image about India in the name of poverty. And the Oscar award has made this ugly image more and more prominent amongst global mindset, specially the western and european world. Lot of repair work needs to be done. Don't be surprised if a foreigner sympathises you(Indian) when you travel abroad.

I agree with Amitabh B and Aamir Khan's view. Lagaan was much much better than this one.
