Freida Pinto is the best target, get going at her NOW, when the world wants to know more about India, and you have a chance to tell them about the good things that do actually exist in Indian culture, inspite of the massive media-bombardment by the dirty US corporate media houses.
Show them NOW, that India has a culture but is a land of perfect Indian crabs, go right ahead!

Forest Gump: hmm.. the name suggests it is you who needs a therapy!
Life offers you opportunities, she has grabbed hers. Why crib about it? And what is wrong with her behavior, she is a modern Indian girl, who's out to make a name for herself.
Let's try and do something useful, instead of pulling someone down.

this film is a celebration of our sad situation .. of people who do not have the dignity of living like a human being should live! of dirt and grim -- and many other things we overlook as though they do not exist...
I understand why a western world should turn to mumbai for inspiration .. nowhere else in the world will you find such a subject - such a sad situation.. we indians usually hide the tear in our cloth rather than mend it ! thanks for reading me.

First, to your answer question - I am happy because AR Rahman, Resul Phokutty and Gulzar have been awarded by the Oscars. This is after 20 odd years that some indians have earned such recognition after Satyajit Ray and another gentleman for Gandhi.
To your other point - Yes the film is talking about sad situations in India. But what's wrong with that. This is our reality. Just as we Indians have made a name for ourselves in the world of IT and technology, so also in this! Large parts of our country is filled with poverty. Have we become such hypocrites that we only want to talk about our successes but can't accept the truth about our failures? And if not for this movie, would the world not know about this? Common, get real! When we go begging to world bank and IMF for funds, when our NGO's go all over the world to raise money, people do get to know about our state. We have visitors from all over the world, and just as they see bright Indian software wizzards, so also do they see our roads, trnasportation, traffic and beggers on the street.
Today we are part of a global village. Right now most of us are still fortunate to have our jobs. Look at the west. Everyday they are announcing jobcuts. Do you need a movie to be made to know about this??? NO. Everyone is watching anyways!!! This movie is not resposible for our state of affairs.
So please learn to appreciate the Indian faces who walked up in Oscar podium today and re-wrote history.

Why you want an Oscar recognition? After all what is Oscar? You will come back and say the west sees it...the point I'm trying to make is we still live in the colonial mind set where we think our self to be inferior to the white skin. Dont you think Rahman have given wonderful wonderful songs before ? But you still want an American to appreciate it. And he got the award only because it was a british film? Never would have he had a chance if it was not the case. The hypocrisy you are talking about is not with us but with the western world. If you cant see parallels between 'N' no. of beauty queens from India from Sushmita to Xs Ys Zs and this glorified Indian poverty, then you lack common sense.

Boss, first go and get an oscar or an equivalent yourself and then you ask about what is there in an Oscar!!!
I don't care if an American is appreciating Rahman. But I can't understand why is it iching you so much if an American does? What's your problem? Please explain what is your issue with America?
Oscars is watched by people world over and is recognized as one of the highest recognitions for film personalities all over the world. If every year 10 people from India get nominated and are winning, then I can understand your question - Whats the big deal. But that's not the case. It took us 20 years to get there. So there must be a certain level of competition right? This whole celebration is about our Indians making a mark in the world space, despite that compitition. Why is it tickling you boss, if we are happy about someones success. So please shut up.

srikanta.. i agree with u. y the hell are u wanting to pull wool over ur eyes and only want to see hirananadani gardens type backgrounds in films? y dont u open up to reality & accept that we are living in a contrast city where both rich and poor equally struggle to survive?? and plz y dont u see that none of the people here are inspired by mumbai(those who make the bigg films) n if some outsider is, it is shame to u?? its very hard for ppl like u to accept that we have won something which has put us in spotlight. u hypocrites complain even if we get nominated or dont get nominated. so just shut up and dont waste our time in making ur report abuse ur comment...!!!
