Well done India!
by Grizzly on Feb 24, 2009 03:48 AM  | Hide replies

This adds a new feather in our hat.
Although the movie didnt really show India in good light and is more of a typical fodder for Westeners. That is how they want to view India, not how we view it.
This is quite the essence of issues India faces in today's world. Anyone who has been abroad can tell you that westeners want to know about Indian beggars, poverty, slums and how poor India lives. They are least interested in rich India with it's high-rises, shopping malls, beautiful gardens etc.
Anyway, this is a moment to enjoy for India. India will rise to a superpower, whether west likes it or not!

Whats is INDIA.... we have a country of marginalism, regionalism, corrupt politicians, fraudulence, pseudo-secularism, Hindu-bashing foot lickers. This is the country where rich becomes richer and poor becomes poorer. This is the only country where there is no unison in border-language and culture, which are the rudimentary tenets for a country.

Wow... what a height of stupidity!! Have we gone back to the Mughal Period, where an word against the ruler would be death?
Why being a patriotic Indian, an ardent servant of my mighty motherland, I cant criticize againt those scumbags who blackens this country??
I think you are part of that opportunist nexus of politician, bureaucrat, businessman who are exploiting the common countrymen, so you arent ready to accept the truth!
Get a life loser... if u r afraid to accept truth wear bangles and hide under a veil...

Nikil arrora .. update u r knowledge first .. then comment on my country .... don't bash like an idiot. marginalism, regionalism, corrupt politicians, fraudulence, pseudo-secularism ... let me know any single country in the world where the above problem doesn't exists ???? its a human tendency .. u will find the above everywhere .... where there is a human.

I am not going to compare my country with any of the worlds .. they all have there own problem .. we have our own .. and its not due to the people of India .. but due to to the coward politicians .. even my country has all the above problem .. i am still proud to be an Indian !!!

Another morin joins the party. Am more patriotic than you... but I have my democratic rights to bash the scumbugs, who blacken my glorious nation.
Befor criticizing me and genralizing our problems, could you answer the following?
1. Is there any country where politician from a state provoke butchering of poor workers of another state?
2. Is there any *secualr* country where people from one particular religion gets umpteenth opportunity in comparision to any other religions.
3. Is there any *democratic* country where one's caste is the most important qualification to get any Govt. Jobs
4. Is there any country which has a *reserved* state for a particular sect of people, where none from any other religions can live without threat and can buy any property.
5. Is there any country where no bureaucratic works can be possible without giving bribes.

I understand problems are there in every nation, but no where in such a mass scale...

Black was a good movie... but a Copy-Paste-Edit of "The Miracle Worker". Oscar celebrate originality not glorified plagarism. We have lots of lobbyist based awards for these.

Ponder, ponder, ponder ...
by Guest on Feb 24, 2009 02:39 AM  | Hide replies

1. AR Rahman should have won the Oscars for his music in Roja, Bombay, RDB, Swades, ...

All the Oscar awards are for Hollywood movies, except for the "Best Foreign Language Movie" award. So how could he have own an Oscar for those. AFAIK, this was his first real entry, and he won. Jai Ho is mediocre by his standards, but all that the award proves is that he's a genius. He got what he deserves, from Hollywood this time. Isn't that great?

2. SM is a mediocre film and didn't deserve an oscar.

Wonder how many people watched the other movies that were nominated before they said SM is mediocre, and how many know what Oscars is for Hollywood movies only. And would have spared a thought for for the judges who decide, what's new for them, etc.

3. India's Image is that of land of Snake Charmers & Sadhus & Poverty, and this movie just projects that image even more.

Really, with all the Indians settled and doing well everywhere around the world you go, is that possible? Unless Indians abroad are spreading that rumor.
The only sad fact is that we can't accept the fact that Snake Charmers & Sadhus & Extreme poverty does exist in India.

4. There are better movies than SM made in India.

Sure, but does the best Indian movie(or rather the movie with the best chances) get nominated for the Best Foreign Language Movie category. Almost never. And why? The usual suspects are there too .. corruption, nepotism, regionalism, and what not.

Dear GUEST,
I scrolled down to the discussion board to write something very similar to these, you did my job.. absolutely agree with you!!

Will add to your point no. 4 : True that the best Indian movies are never sent for Oscars, besides that films in the foreign language category are really really awesome... even if hollywood movies had to compete with those, hollywood wont stand a chance... so winning an award in the foreign language category is the toughest!

Poverty tourism!

I am sure that soon there will be a whole segment of tourists visiting Mumbai just to get a guided tour of Dharavi!

What's Oscar?
by Nil Srini on Feb 24, 2009 02:15 AM  | Hide replies

Its not a great award. In fact all awards are just eyewash. AR Rahman scored better music in previous films but this is directed by white guy to qualify for Oscar.Still noth Indiana may not digest this.2 awards for south indians.Shows the talnt of South. Useless Noth masala Hindi movies. All quality movies from South.nevr they give an award to south in national level. They give to waste Noth hindi movies and technicians. Same is the case of Oscar. An ordinary movi with ordinary scores got award. If an ordinary score gets an award imagine good south Movies especially tamil movies.Though not a gr8 award this one give a slap on hindi walas.

by mahesh sawant on Feb 24, 2009 01:43 AM  | Hide replies

Danny has only potrayed the negative parts of India .. and its not at all real .. we have slums ... I have seens mumbai slums .. but its not like what danny showed in his movie .. u will never see a teacher of MNC school wearing dhoti, airport security people running back of children s in slum .. he showed that just too show the slum, a host insulting his contestant repeatedly by calling him a chai wala .... I have seen both KBC1 and 2 none of srk as well as AB behaved the way AK shown in this movie, what about Taj mahal driver beating a child shown as Indian culture and the goras giving money to him is American culture ??? the end of movie is typical bollywood where the elder brother scarifies his life .. the heroine runs in problem while meeting his hero ... all happy ending .. so where is the reality ? and what message this movies gives ???
