Pazhassiraja was not even included in the Indian Panorama section of IFFI 2009. It was done deliberately. Malayalam films are not getting due recognition in the National awards also for the last few years. So it will be a big surprise if Mammootty gets a national award this time although he very much deserves it.

Bhramaram was only an average movie with a senseless climax...of course mohan lal was the saving grace in that otherwise pathetic movie..But i dont't think he did something great in that movie...the script and the dialogues were so fragile and silly. I think, he doesnt deserve a national award for that..

2009 in retrospect
by Guest on Dec 19, 2009 01:18 AM  | Hide replies

The year 2009 was actually a very good year for malayalam film industry in terms of both box office returns as well as quality, that is when compared to few previous years.

The finest malayalam movie of the year easily was Blessy's 'Bhramaram' which can even be said to be one of the best movie from India in recent years.A MUST-WATCH for any movie lover.

Pazzhasi Raja was a mega movie in terms of its aspirations and budjet and turned out to be a technically brilliant film well told.
Also ones like Palery Manickyam, KeralaCafe, Rithu, Passenger, Patham nilayile Theevandi, Loud speaker, Oorkuka vallaphizum were all quality movies
while there were also some pure commercial hits like Puthiya Mugham,Robinhood, 2-Hariharnagar,etc. giving a variety of movies.

Hope for an even better 2010 for mal. movies.

what i heard the film pazhassi raja became a failure in the industry. what i feel stars like mammootty should retire or they should accept roles of old characters instead of hero. then malayalam film industry will escape. Further after JAYAN there is no hero with masculine character. so it is necessary to search for new heros to safeguard the malayalam industry.

Thanks Man... I particularly like Jaggesh , Tiger Prabhakaran, Ravichadran and Upendra! Very handsome people. Ambarish looks royal!

Unfortunately, I find Sudeep, Anant Nag and Shankar Nag a little down in standards. They look similar to actors from other states.

The rest are in a different plane.

Yours Sincerely,
A Mallu

what are u worth for? The Hindi film was dominated By Hemamalini / Vijayanthimala/Sridevi- all from TN. The No.1 music direcor ARR is from TN. The three Nobel prize winners- Dr. Raman, Chandrasekar and recentrly Krishnamurthy are Tamils. And geart freedom fighters - Gandhiji was Gujarati/ Tilak was from Maharshtra/ Lala from Punjab and Nethaji/ Chitramnjan from BEngal and Raajaji/kamraj from TN. There is not even one freedom fighter from Karnataka- what are u worth for, please let me know.

Kannadigas are smart people.
Kannadigas hire the tamils and others to do all that.
Just like the Americans have hired the Pakis.
So,Tamils are akin to the Pakis.
Now, is there a worse insult....

100% Kumar is not Kannidiga.
Narasimhan FYI Kittur Chennamma, Rani Abbakka,Songolli Rayanna, Sindhoor Lakshamana and Tippu Sultan were all freedom fighters a century before Gandhi.
No one IN THE WORLD CAN BE COMPARED TO VISHWERAIAH, but he never got Nobel and Nobel prize cannot be yard stick for any thing. Even Gandhi didn't got nobel and u can see obama also got nobel this year:)
