Your views on politics and war are absolute rubbish Mr.RUSHDIE. yOU MAY TAKE TO WRITING ON SUBJECTS RELATED TO iSLAM AND SOCIETY ALONE. THAT TOO BLASPHEMOUSLY.
Hit the nail on the head. The book, if set to film, would either become an art-house piece of pseudo-intellectual gibberish that will bewilder everyone, or will become an idiot's guide to rushdie with an eye at BO earnings and will be totally commercial and shallow. This book is at the very least, an allegory with as many layers as an onion. Film is too insignificant to catch the spirit of the book. 'Fury' can be turned to film, or maybe we can make a movie on a rock and eternal love (scripting it in the form of chapters like "I'm not there") a la 'ground beneath her feet'but then the book will lose its Indian/Parsi touch.
Film makers that shouldn't ever touch such material as Midnight's children: Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Karan Johar (he should open a coffee shop) Sanjay whatever of 'Dus Kahaniyaa', D Ramanaidu, BR Chopra, and worse Shubash Ghai!!! Ghai a film maker?! hahaha.. Now, options Rushdie could have considered: Mani Ratnam, Gulzar saab himself (Sen, how could you forget him?), Vishal you have mentioned, Shyam Benegal and believe it or not Prahlad Kakkar!! Then what about Gandhi maker Attenborough?
Before you write a letter contemplate your own objectives. If you have been so obviously enriched by Rushdie's work, then maybe you should write him a personal letter. On the other hand if it is really your plan to show off, then this 'public letter' must be made more reader-friendly. How else can you get people to admire what they 'still' do not understand. So get rid of passages like 'while Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu figure-skates through the non-linearity so essential to all Rushdie narratives'. If possible all of your writing. And finally, come straight to the point. Thank you, Only if you do not write again, Mr. 'midnight child of movie critiques'.
being an ardent fan of rushdie n having read most of his novels, let me start by saying that the whole idea of a cinematic version of M's C is blasphemous. It's too long and complicated to do justice on screen.having seen pan's labrynth (which should have won the oscar) i agree the director is good. having said tht i dont think tht's enough, coz the person who directs it has to be a fan of M's C.The only thing though is that the movie whoever makes it should be made for people who hae read the novel and hence the subtilities should be left to be worked out. Then may be there is a chance, if not forget the whole hoopla.

Perhaps Guest is getting brainwashed at one of the shaka's he need to come out of the mental rut and live in the world of reality,as our countrymen celebrate the marvellous journey of chandrayan around the moon.

Actuallu "Guest" belongs to the category of people who don't have any original ideology and just like to poke their nose anytwhere n everywhere.. I guess that sets the issue here..
