Good entertainer

Good entertainer....usual type of masala tamil movie plus some techinical and make up effects.
7-8 unecessary charaters.Fletcher was the best. No extra efforts taken for acting. Most of the hard work is wasted on the carrying of the make up and linking the same into the script. Mallaika super. Kamal attempted the humour part through asin but it turned out crass and irritating. The nostalgia from teh 12 th century was great. All in all a usual masala tamil entertainer...with added effects.for people talkign about sense and senislibity...how many of the sueprhits movies across Hindi and tamil industry makes complete sense... ??then why blame dasvatharam alone

How many entirely different characters has Al Pacino or Marlon Brando or Mel Gibson or Sean Penn done? 10? 20? Do you know what the term Versatility means? Kamal Haasan has done close to 200 movies in all major languages. And mind you, he has tried his best to live each of these characters. You wont see a Kamal in these movies. You will see characters like Senapathy, Appu, Velu Nayakar, Sakthi Vel Thevar, Nalla sivam, Krishnaswamy, Chappani, DCP Raghavan when u watch his movies.

Kamal fans are more exposed to world cinema than many others because he is the only actor who tries to elevate Indian cinema to a higher plane and make the world recognize our efforts.

You said kamal tried to bring world class quality to Indian cinema. How many of kamal's films were screened at Cannes or at world film festivals? How many of his films won laurels at World stage? If you say, he is a svaiour of Indian Cinema, how many of his films went to Oscar? How many of english or any other western movies he featured? Do you know Sony pictures was not impressed with script of "Maruthanayagam" the film which is dubbed as only indian film which could surprise the World? In my opinion, his films hype the thoughts of his fans and really deliver a little

Why do we have to contend that all films screened at Cannes are good? Films would have got selected to be screened at Cannes by sheer lobbying...Do you know how many films get a thumbs down after the screening? Even Devdas was premiered at Cannes for that matter...Was it a good film by any standard? The same holds for Oscars too...You remember a movie by name "Shakespeare in Love" garnering lots of Oscars...Do you think anything in that movie was worth the Oscars...Come on...Even Gwyneth Paltrow's Oscar winning performance was mediocre...It lapped up an Oscar for makeup too...But Avvai Shanmughi had a far better makeup...The same holds for last year's "Dream Girls"...It was not even a bad film...It was a terrible film...Michael Clayton and Atonement were nominated in the best category too...Were they good movies? "Juno" had a few laughable one liners...Thats it...How did it manage to enter the Oscar bandwagon? So please get cleared of your notion that all the Oscar winning/nominated movies are good...You need not have to win laurels at worls stage to prove yourself nor you will have to feature in Western films...Sony Pictures even got the rights for "Saawariya" worldwide I guess...Was it a good movie? Definitely kamal joins the ranks of Mamooty and Mohanlal...He will definitely be the "Ulaga Nayagan" for his fans.
Regards,
Jaya

There was a time, Kamal used to over-act. But become a polished gem over a period of time. Growing under the watchful eyes of K Balachandar, he has donned a variety of roles. No Indian actor can match him - across various linguistic spectrums. Going to the Cannes festival or getting an Oscar is not to be viewed as the ultimate. All of us love and cherish Al Pacinos, Tom Hanks, etc. because they don't overdo but underplay. Kamal knows and he is world class.

Dude!! UllagaNayagan (Hero of Universe)is way better than Oscar Nayagan. Who said getting Oscars is the ultimate stage in a acting career? Oscar is meant for English movies. Time will come when people from Hollywood would want to get Filmfare awards. If you ridicule Kamal's acting, am sure u r insane, who knows nothing about cinema in general. True, there are many good actors around the globe, but dare not say Kamal does not belong to that league. I believe everyone would doubt your credibility. Oh yeah....., you don't have to when things look more obvious. Donkeys don't know camphor smell.....

Kamal saves the sinking Bollywood
by Durai Sivasubramanian on May 27, 2008 02:49 PM

Bollywood gets a new lease of life through Kamal's Dasavatharam. Western countries have been ridiculing indian cinema, because of the movies which it had been producing all these days - Karan Johar's family soap operas, crazy and crappy crossover movies, unfunny comedies, silly romances of shah rukh, saif and others etc.

Khans, bye-bye
by KR on May 27, 2008 02:06 PM  | Hide replies

The Khans, Bachchans and Kumars can go hiding this year. They better not come out of their dens as the LION of Indian Cinema. Yes, Kamal Haasan, South Indian Cinema's Almighty, fondly called Ulaga Nayakan(The Hero of the Universe) is set to rule the Indian and International Box OFFICE with the release of his mega movie - DASAVATHARAM - an action thriller set in 12th centory where here plays ten entirely different roles, a unique feat never ever performed by anyone in World Cinema.
The south indian super star is the only actor from the south who has tasted success in the Bollywood, till date. Earlier he has made several movies in Hindi, some of which created box office records -
1. Ek Duje Ke Liye
2. Saagar
3. Pushpak
4. Sadma
5. Hindustani
6. Chachi 420
7. Appu Raja
