16 vayathinile Pushpaka Vimana Sathi Leelavathy: remade in hindi as Biwi No.1. Chanakyan: Revenge-Thriller in Malayalam Indran chandran: Dubbed in hindi as Mayor Saab Sathya: Superb Action. Kamal plays an unemployed frustrated youth. Anbey Sivam: One of the best movies made in India. as someone mentioned here, there is a scene in which Kamal talks about the effects of Tsunami(This was in early 2004-even before Tsunami happened in asia) Oru Kaidhiyin Diary: Remade as Aakhri Rasta in Hindi Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu: A cop against serial killers. MMKR: One of the best comedies ever made in Tamil. Kamal plays 4 entirely different roles. Sigappu Rojakkal: Remade as 'Red Roses' in hindi. Kamal plays an obsessive psycho in this dark thriller. Mahanadhi: One of tamil cinema's most touching movies! not recommended for the weak hearted.

ok u have mentioned only the 'critically acclaimed' movies of Kamal. what about the ones that did not find favour among critics but became big commercial hits -
sagalakala vallavan thoongadhe thambi thoongadhe khakhi chattai singaravelan vasool raja mbbs thenali guru(tamil) sattam yen kaiyil vazhve mayam ellam inba mayam etc.

oh Gawd! Sathya(Tamil) is a fantastic movie. Sunny Deol's original Arjun is the lousier one. For the first and only time, the remake is much better than the original.

For how long are we going to keep talking about his 1980 movies! Why there are no new movies worth a mention !
RE:RE:some more classics:

How come a remake is better than a original movie when everything including the script was copied! Its bemusing!!!
I admire kamal for his genius acting and experimenting ideas with a thought of taking Tamil Cinemas to highest level. Iam sure every one would agree no other actors have produced legend movies like 1) Nayagan 2) Moonram Pirai 3) Devar Magan 4) Punnagai Mannan 5) Indian 6) Anbe Sivam 7) Avvai Shanmugi 8) Aburva Sagodarargal 9) Kurudhi Punal 10) Salangai Oli and the lsit continues.
Iam sure everyone would agree with me that no one would be able perform like the climax scene of Moonram Pirai which is touching, Anbe Sivam etc. I hope Dasavatharam would be one of his bests and all the best
I like many of Kamal's movies like Saagar, Hindustani, Nayakan(hindi) etc. Many of them I've seen only as dubbed hindi movies which lack the essence of the originals - especially the voice. Still the aspects I like in him are his agility : in some movies his stunt scenes are marvelously picturised ; dance movements are unique and he has his own style; the way he differentiates between each character he plays on screen, In Appu raja, the three characters are entirely different from each other, which was remarkable for that period.
Hope his new hindi venture, Dashavatar becomes a huge success so that he continues to give his Bollywood fans some great classics in the future.
I am from Lucknow, UP and I would say that this actor, Kamal Haasan is a fairly popular star here. Everybody knows he is a south indian but still he is a likeable actor among film fans. The point here is, almost everyone 'knows' him. There are many good actors in the south like Mohan Lal, Churanjvi but they have'nt tasted success in bollywood due to looks, accent or other reasons and hence most of the junta dont know their names. Kamal Haasan was very well known in the 80s mainly because of his movies like Ek Duje Ke Liye, Saagar etc and later some of his movies also ran well here like Pushpak, Appu raja, Hindustani. His last good movie in hindi, i think is Chachi 420 which is still shown on Sony, Star Gold channels frequently. I have'nt seen Mumbai Express or Hey Ram but I heard they were not upto the mark.
I dont know why some are talking about Rajinikant here. Rajinikant is more like a cartoon character. People watch his dubbed movies and make fun of them, just like watching a Charlie Chaplin or a DD's comedy show episode. But I heard he is also a cult figure in the south like Kamal. Anyways, opinion differs.

there you go, one more dakkan. people are obsessed with some actors and cant take even constructive argument and start giving reference to Yashraj's, pure pathetic. BTW I would ask why there arent english subtitles in tamil movies, I ask for english as there are more anti-hindi people than neutral people towards hindi forget about people who like hindi there.

hi upadhyay, True .. whtever u said ... thou some points cann't be agreed (especially about rajinikant ...but opinion differs as u said ... but wht i like to insist u is u have mentioned that u didn't see the mumbai express and Heyram as u heard those r not upto the mark ,no... infact big NO... those r not below to typical indian audiance who like to see melodrams only ...Heyram is one of the best picture in all stands ,by music ,by picturation ,by technical,by acting ,by character selection and by perfection ... ofcourse it didn't do well in boxoffice ...but its not neccesary to all greats do well in box office( u must have seen many films in this category )... since by ur words i thought u like arts inspite of language difference and culture difference iam writing it .... if that is the case don't miss HEYRAM
overacting actor..hahaha!!! Kamal the overacting actor and overhyped who thinks too much and result - produces different films which are not easy to understand.make up also helps him a lot..
Ex:Virumandi glorified violence Anbe Sivam glorified atheism and communismNo No one could understand alavandhan, Guna..
Dasavatharam - will it meet the hype created??????
RE:The next flop like guna, alavandhan, heyram, mahanadhi, mumbai express
by santykams on May 22, 2008 01:01 AM
Virumanid never glorified violenece - It was exhibiting how curedly violence plasys abd role in everybody's role.
Anbe Sivam - didn't promote Atheism or Communism - If you have bought that thought then we should applaud Kamal hassan havng done a good acting. Otherwise the story doesnt convey anything beyond Love & borhterhood.

with dumb ppl like u around its bit difficult for kamal to produce intelligent movies...why dont u watch cartoon...u can atkeast try to understand it...
As for Kamal fans, dasavatharam will be a feast. Doing ten rolesm in one film may be great. But, whether these 10 roles acted differently..is an issue to look for. I believe that, kamal can act..even in 100 roles, but any one can easily identify his acting in just 5 minutes of each role's play. Kamal is a great actor of his own mannerisms. He expresses GUNA type acting mannerisms within three minutes in any role. Any oner who watches world cinema will never agree tthat kamal is an realistic actor. He repeats exaggereated acting of sivaji, but with low intensity. In dasavatharam watch out NAYAGAN type crying, guna type eye movements and movements and facial expressions in every role. In my opinion, surya is a better tamil actor who can excel if given right script and director.

Raghu - what exactly are you trying to say ? as far as cinema lovers are concerned DASAVATHARAM will be a treat thats all that matters to us!
RE:Exaggerated facts
by santykams on May 22, 2008 01:04 AM
I don't if Raghu doesn't like Kamal HAsssan - We can't do anything about it as nobody can be compelled to like him or he doesn't understand cinema on the whole - which again can't helped until we level play with him.

KAMAL SIR IS AN UNIVERSITY FOR FILMS , ACTORS LIKE SURYA MAY BE CUTE ,COZ THEY ARE IN KINDER GARDEN OR KG CLASSES.... SORRY FRIENDS WE HAVE TO ACCEPT THE TRUTH...

University! Joke of the century and millenium
What he has done is all copied from Hollywood so you better name some Hollywood actor whom he has copied as an "University". That would be more appropriate

As said by Jaiprakiash, i agree, surya is a baby entered the world, but our Hon. Kamal is a mastero to Tamil Film Industry. Our Supreme Hero's film Dasavatharam will be a superhit film like Rajini's Shivaji. Waiting to see the picture on 6th June,2008 in Delhi
Sure fire blockbuster. Wills surely gross 150 crores from Indian and International markets. In tamil it is already a super hit. Audio Sales have exceeded 5 crores. Distribution rights have brought in a huge profit. So Dasa is already a very highly profitable movie.
RE:Definite Super HIT
by Karthik V on May 22, 2008 10:39 AM
Dont talk rubbish before the movie releases and audience accepts it. If you are fanatic of kamalahasan keep it with you.
This is applicable for all the kamalahasan fanatics who go on saying his 1950 movies where a hit and this would be big hit. As far as we are concerned and the general audience are concerned it only matters if the movie is likeable or not and dont want his histrionics and facial guffaws.
