It would be most foolish to compare Bollywood actors with South Indian superstars like Rajnikanth, Sivaji Ganesan, Mohanlal, Mamooty, Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, and even Kamal Hassan, simply because they are in a completely different environment and setting. The best thing about the Southern actors is their humility and social conciousness, while Bollywood actors like Amitabh and Shahrukh are world renowned, what have they really done for the people at large. In fact, they haven't either bothered about the very film fraternity that has made them what they are.
Rajnikanth's humility and simplicity is legendary, he moves around like just another person and not a super star. The only things our Bollywood biggies like Salman and Saif have done is either killed hapless beggars on the roads or chinkaras in the wild. Or our good ol' Aamir will talk about Narmada dam and then conveniently forget about it and start selling Coke and Samsung.
They seriously need to learn from the Southern stars, a lesson and many about their social role and responsibility. While quite a few of them might have their wax statues in Tussads, the southern stars have really won the hearts of their audiences.
So please lets be sensible and agree that there is no comparison between the North and the South. It is too pretty obvious.

I am proud to be chiru's fan. coc abt 10 years back he opened a CCT (Chiraneevi Charitable Trust) so far they succefully operated 1600 blind people and given them a new life. He is not only a gud actor but also a very gud human being. Thats y recently he blessed with Padmabhshan award.

Good...I support u...,What you have said is absouletly correct. Southern Film Stars are really great, indeed the Bollywood stars should learn from Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, VijayKanth and Kamal they live long with the poor and needy...
Kamal is the ultimate collection king. He is the only man who can overtake Rajinikanth's vasool records. Previously we have had record breaking blockbusters from Kamal like Apoorva Sagotharargal, Devar Magan, Indian, Avvai shanmughi etc. The next movie in this league is Dasavatharam. Already Mayajaal is planning to have a record breaking 34 shows a day for Dasavatharam. The other major theatres Sathyam, Devi and Sangam are all booked for the huge movie of the year. The other two biggies Bheema and Kuruvi have crashlanded - both becoming pathetic box office turkeys.
Kamal and Rajini are the ultimate superstars of the south - in fan base, collections, popularity and Acting.

He has given a rip-roaring Thenaali after the big budget debacle Hey Ram, two back to back comedy money spinners PKS and 5Thanthiram after the disappointing Alavanthaan(Abhay). For the last 40 years this actor has been giving us some of the most impacting powerful movies as well as some immemorable comedy classics. No movie or role is ordinary for him or his fans. This can be seen from the hardships he faces to portray every single character on screen. Tamil Cinema has literally been blessed with a star like Kamal Haasan! Long live the King of Movies! Oh please....Harris Jayaraj's songs could have boosted the cassette sales...Then why did Patchaikili muthucharam which had Harris too bomb at the box office...? And do you think if Sarath had acted in kamal's place VV could have been a hit?
Most South Indian heros try to last as heroes only even when they are ageing & greying- because they have in south the most silly fan clubs & blind followers. Tell me in which real world, any one will accept pot bellied Mohan lal or Sivaji Ganesan or dark ugly bald but wig wearing moustached Rajnikanth or fat hawk eyed short spastic Kamal. Their mannerism & moves may have the a sell value in the otherwise strange south audience. They are certainly not worth larger audience but then who can say they cannot continue as long as the theaters get filled by worshippers of these in South. Good luck to these average looking & average talented ` STARS' or they call them `SUPERSTARS" in south...Is it......!

FYI, marlon brando has stated tht sivaji ganeshan is the greatest actor in the world, his memoirs ar etched in american universities. Cannes festival jury membrs had stated mohanlal ws born in the wrong side of the world, as he ws in the west he would hav alrdy had oscars. His performnces in vanaprastham was hailed widely at cannes. This movie got rave reviews evn b/f stupid devdas and srk came to cannes.
Kamal hassan has alrdy received praises from jackie chan, amitabh bachan and world famous make up artist. Kamal came to know abt he being the only actor in the world to play 10 characters aftr world wide known make up artist stated tht.
So if marlon brando, cannes juries, international actors have spoked highly abt these 3 actors, and not only tht evn ur own superstars bachan has also talkd highly abt these actors.
Wht excuse and reason do u have behind ur commnts? The answer is purely biased since u do not know any of thm and u just wnt to state ur dumb commnts on these actors.
Dude, the fans ar diffrnt from the actors. Actors have givn performncs based on charactrs and directors. The fans ar only worshippin thm for his/her opinions abt their fav. actor

Kamal is good but thinks too much...alavandhan, guna,hey ram,mumbai express, rajaparvai..the list of endless..mad films which were flops and hard to understand..
Except Michael Madana kamarajan, his other so called comdey films were just ok!!!and his voice is mediocre unlike Amitabh..
anyway, he has survived thanks to make up, good music,overacting, good producers...

Magalir Mattum,Sathi leelavathi, Tenali and Avvai Shanmughi - Agreed that all are ripoffs but definitely notches higher than the originals. Dont you think "Pushpak" is an all time classic? If you find RajaParvai hard to understand, then I think you do not know Tamil.

Watch these actors movie from director's POV on wht thy wnt convey thru their movies, if it doesn't make sense thn u have to watch it from their POV and thn u'll understand. Just wtch movies and thn forgt abt it.
Why do u wnt to stay all night and nxt day figurin out the movie. His voice is mediocore, well wht do u wnt kamal to do. I mean, thts his voice for god's sake, why can't u leave kamal alone as far his voice is concrned.
Kamal is who he is, he makes movies his way, he takes up charactrs according to his strength and makes the best out of it.
Why don't u prove ur good as he is or better thn him?

Sripriya...pls read the article properly...They had written his age as six when acting in Kalathur kannamma and they say 48 years later meaning his age is 54 now which is the right age of Kamal. He was born on 7th Jan 1954 meaning his age is 54 now which matches with the article. I would request you to go through an article before pointing an accusing finger against rediff.
