Why I gave away the Race ending

not your decision

Dear Mr Sen,
Maybe you're the Hindu god of cinema. Maybe you're the assigned minister for movies and entertainment. I don't know, maybe you're the love child of Ingmar Bergman, Satyajit Ray and Akira Kurosawa. Even if you're all of these rolled into one, you do not, I repeat, DO NOT have the right to give away the climax of a film, however asinine you might think it is.
Go ahead and review it, rate it, tear it apart. But at the end of the day, please remember, it's just your personal opinion - one person's opinion - that the movie was so bad that you had to give away the ending.
I saw the movie yesterday and I want you to know that you ruined it for me. Never mind how good or bad the screenplay was - I knew what was going to happen in the end because I made the mistake of reading your review and i couldn't enjoy the thrills, however cheap they may have been.
You don't know me, you don't owe me anything and I'm sure it doesn't affect you in the least to know that you spoiled a movie for me. I don't want an apology for you - I just think you should know that just like you have the right to not care about one nameless, faceless person you've never met, you also don't have the right to spoil a movie going experience for a nameless, faceless person you've never met.

waste...

I watched Race a couple of weeks back and i can confirm that it's a total waste of IQ, a movie who's basic premise is that we are all buffoons. If over sized sunglasses, flashy cars, and a wannabe Guy Ritchie look and feel makes it an entertainer, then god help us in what's to come next. Saif spent the first 10 years of his career making mediocre films and the next 5 years rediscovering himself somewhat with DCH and Ek Haseena Thi. Here he runs the risk of slipping back again. Lets hope his next is better.

Hi Raja,

I personally find your reviews very interesting and feel that you are one of the best film-reviewers out there.

But, revealing a films end because you feel it is non-sensical/confusing/convoluted/copied is not on. The reason is because other people may not think like you. Heck, if we all agreed with each other, then most all these morons on rediff would not be baying for your blood...what say?

Anyways, keep up the good work.

what if i did not know the ending?

I read raja's review of Race before watching it, so I knew the ending but I still kind of liked the movie. However the fact remains that I will never know whether I would have liked it more or less if I did know how the movie ends.

Dear Raja, I'm a fan of your reviews and more of your knowledge of Cinema, however in this case I do not agree with you.

Mr sen.....

I was a fan of your review.....

But the review of race changed my views about your review!!!

Now again you are trying to validate your point.....

Race is neither a masterpiece nor so bad.

It is a entertaining movie thats all...

But you are so obsessed with your writting that.....

I like your writting style thats why I can comment (no suggestion!)

Grow up Mr Sen!

To give the reader point Z and send him into the theatre to start from point A and try to join the dots of the how-do-they-possibly-get-to-Z puzzle while they're watching the film.

are u mad?

You could have avoided this dumb and ego filled letter!
by Sudarsan on Mar 28, 2008 01:40 PM

Raja,

With the above letter to the readers, you have pushed yourself into a deeper hole. Your letter above is fully filled with ego and your justifying your action when you were wrong completely pulls you down more.

Who are you to decide on a general note, how the film will be perceived by the audience? You perceive it as a mindless film? Someone else could perceive it as a classic thriller (probably the best that he/she has watched). By revealing the climax, you have made the assumption that all the people reading your review think alike and you think it will help all of them.

And whatever bullshit a film is, as a reviewer, your job is to only focus on how the movie was taken, how it was presented, etc. You do not have the right to reveal even the plot of the film (these days, plots are revealed with spoilers).

Anyways, this is your writing space and you have the right to write whatever you want. But you have just fallen so much down that I hope you get what you deserve.
