where is Shiva

His real big movie was Shiva, which took him to the big league of actors after which everything else followed. Guess this is only for Tamil audience.

Poovizhi vasalile and Shiva

How come his performances in "Poovizhi vasalile" and "Shiva" dont find mention here ? I would rate these with his performance in "Anjali" as a middle-class father as the best! at one time, he was accused of trying to ape Kamal Hassan, but he stood his own - but for his personal life skirmishes, he would have probably lived longer - his dalliances with drugs and alcohol probably shortened his life - farewell Raghuvaran

One of the best actor. He is also referred to as AlPacino of South Asia. One of the most versatile actor who changed the dimension of anit-hero, not villan. Basha became a super hit because of a parallel role played by this everlasting actor with out which Rajini could not have conquered... Raghuvaran, May your soul rest in peace

Balance the information.

It would have been better if the article had a photograph and his film career also. You could also have dwelt a bit on his successful films. It would have made the article more balanced.

dear Raghuvaran, you were just wonderful
by mohandas pai on Mar 22, 2008 12:30 AM

a beautiful scripted obituary - really touched heart - so nicely brought out the various roles played by a versatile person in acting arena .. rarely such a variety of angles of a person we have found in the film world - so lowkey Raghuvaran came through without much of hype and glamour one finds in this world - i really wished at one time, God bless him with a comfortably caring family life but it was not to be - if only that was there, may be we could have more best out of his talents .... Even God may wonder at this versatility in bringing out and essaying roles of diversity.. May He rest in peace atleast now away from all the sufferings in real life ... on earth up there in the heavens in the caring company of the Creator...

Farewell Raghuvaran!

Tribute by Murli

No one can't watch others(on screen) when this born actor performs.
So far, lots of story characters got WEIGHT because of his unmatched performance.....
And now, lots of characters have to WAIT hundred and hundreds of years to get an actor like Raghu again...

From him, one can learn 2 things....
1-how to perform a reel life
2-how not to perform a real life

Great actor in villain roles
by Vishwanath on Mar 21, 2008 11:32 PM  | Hide replies

Raghuvaran will be forever etched by Telugu movie goers for his dark and broody character as Bhavani in Shiva. That character is immortal which also has to do with the director of the movie Ram Gopal Verma(he makes stupid movies these days but at that time he was at his best). That movie made a star out of Nagarjuna overnight, and raised the bar of technique(mainly the steadicam) used in Indian movies. I remember watching the movie first in 1990 and it still has a chilling experience on me. Bhavani has a lot to do with it.

RGV had great support from Raghuvaran, Nagarjuna, the cinematographer and of course, the inimitable Maestro.Ilaiyaraaja without whose score, SHIVA wud have been a dud!

Rediff forgot something
by Suresh Malepati on Mar 21, 2008 11:30 PM  | Hide replies

I dont how rediff forgot his amazing performance in path breaking and trend-setting movie SHIVA. Shiva was a great hit in all the regional languages along with Hindi. His performance was just outstanding. Some people say Raghuvaran every surpassed Nagarjuna in performance in the movie. Rediff should do through research before paying tributes to great actors.
