"Hindi" as the term for a language is used in at least four different but overlapping senses:[12]
defined regionally, Hindi languages, i.e. the dialects native to Northern India in a narrower sense, the Central zone dialects, divided into Western Hindi and Eastern Hindi in a wider sense, all languages native to north-central India, stretching from Rajasthani in the west and Pahari in the northwest to Bihari in the east. defined historically, the literary dialects of Hindi literature, that is, historical regional standards such as Braj Bhasha and Avadhi. defined as a single standard language, Modern Standard Hindi, or "High Hindi", that is, highly Sanskritized Khari boli defined politically, Hindi is any dialect of the region that is not Urdu. This usage originates in the Hindi-Urdu controversy in the 19th century, and is that adopted by the official Indian census (as of 1991), which includes as Hindi a wide variety of dialects of the Hindi belt (adding up to a fraction native speakers of 40% of the total population), but lists Urdu as a separate language (with 5.8% native speakers).

you must be a shameless gujarati who has no respect for his own mother tongue. There is nothing called Hindi. See we are typing English here and talk mother tongue at home. Hindi is not necessary.

Rajini should have played the role of the barber. He can act with out any make up and guess what ...That role will suit just about perfectly. he any way looks like a barber in real life

You don't even look like a human being in real life. You can try for the role of a donkey in a movie.
The greatness of rajini sir is here only.Even though he still can act in rocking movies, he chooses his subject. He is the all time great actor in india. Also friends, also dont feel bad about the comments which is sure to come from our north indian friends, as, they dont know what they are saying

You can say that he is a great actor. do not say all time great. there is nothing like all time great. with the passing of time the criteria will also change.

At no stage u can call him a great actor ..He is just a mediocre actor with very little credentials

You are wrong.. he is a great actor with so much love and support from the public... he alone can produce great hits...

Obviously, you can't count the number of hits he had given. Thats why you had counted his only flop movie.

Useless bollywood.
I hated aag but i respect ram gopal varma for giving an o.k role to mohanlal and evn in tht role mohanlal did not overdo it, rather the expression on his face and body language ws a signal to his fans don't wtch this movie twice.
But i don't know wht ram gopal varma thought of first whn sitting w.his writer and making sketchings of bachan's,devgan's,debut actor's,rajpal yadav's and sushmita sen's role. All those roles had nothing and it seemed the writer and the director only put "thought" into one charcter and thts mohanlal's character.
Anywys, as the old ram gopal varma fan i am only embarrased for all the cast excecpt mohanlal.

Rajni is a much better than most of the crap actors. The fact is, nobody used his acting potential completely. Just go and watch "Thalapathi". You'll come to know of his acting potential.

Hey guys we are not ina state of civil war here and that too quareeling over Rajnikanth, Noth India South India etc etc etc. All eras have great and popular people from every field, so I belive we can achieve nothing out by quarelling here and discrminating ourselves region wise, coz at teh end of the day we all are INDIANS and in the time of crisis we all are one BIG NATION

What's there to be proud about Rajni? Is it because he's a hit among a group of people, like the tasty (but absolutely terrible for health) cheeseburgers for US?

Hi Kannan,
I am a north indian and liked few hindi movies that he did, unfortunately he didn't do much.
I am writing this to let you know that your comments were polite considering the hate mongers present on rediff. Just one request dont generalise that all Rajni bashers are north indians...any sort of hate monging i believe should not be distinguished by generalising it. There are many people who are doing nothing but hate monging on rediff against north indians south indians hindu muslim and what not. Please discourage this and dont generalise it.
