Where did that Traitor who advised Pundit Nehru to pull back Indian troops from North East when Chinese invaded come from? Again the shining example was a southern specimen (V.P. Menon) Who are the great scientists who have repeatedly failed to give us fully functional Arjun tanks, Light combat aircrafts, Trishul missile, Nag missile, and a host of different models of radars? If LCAs, Trishuls etc. are not successful models as understood by you, what about ASLV, GSLV, Cryogenic Engines, IRS, INSAT, etc. Was Mr. Menon holding independent charge: or was he working under Pundit Nehru? How many satellites have they palced in orbit? Cryogenic engine is a success? prove it with examples of successful application. INSAT, IRS wholly Indian designed and built satellites? WRONG. Russian help in case INSAT (right from aryabhatta episode onwards) and Russian-Israeli help in case of IRS. Insat has revolutionised Broadcast and telecommunication media, but other than that? Can IRS's specific benefit accruement till date be spelled out. Minning remains a chaotic and inefficient industry, oil and gas exploration continues to be a case of hit or miss (Foreign expertise is still prefered look at the success of Cairns at one go). IRS has not helped in the meteorological forecasting either, remeber the many spells of surprise droughts and floods and how many lives that cost us? V.P. Mennon was holding the defence charge. He was the man to advise the PM and Cabinet. He calearly should have had the understanding of what his job would involve, otherwise nobody had forcibly given him that responsibility. He was incompetent and probably had no idea what North East of India is all about. He made another major blunder, Indian airforce was a far more powerful force at that time compared to Chinese air force. He has the dubious distinction of advising the cabinet to forgo the choice of air strike to drive back the Chinese. Remember air power is strategic and not necessarily battle winner. This forecd USA to step in and force Pakistan to back off to avoid a full fledged war. And don't worry about Kashmir it is an Indian and will remain an Indian state. Because Pakistan will never dare to undertake another direct operation because India has showed that there is a fundamental shift with regard to defence of the country: we will use full power available to us in case of conflict. Mennon had no understanding of the defence preparedness of the country and its importance. This was one BIG reason why China plastered us in that war. We lost the war. PERIOD. but then we also lost Pundit Nehru. South Indian ingenuity? maybe. And please don't talk about Kashmir. Still, for records sake, I would say a few things: INSAT is indeed a very successful venture. Our communication and broadcasting revolution is mainly due to this. Our launch capabilities are pretty good. Today, India is capable of placing payloads at Low Earth Orbit for other countries' payloads too. But, the credit goes to all the ISRO scientist, particularly Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, who IS a Northy. I respect him a lot and he is my role model. Please get the facts right. I am proud to be an INDIAN. I thought you were talking about Mr. Menon who did enormous work in bringing all the Maharajas under the fold of Indian Union during independence. I didn't bargain for this in rediff board. because, I am generally used to abuses and filth whenever there is a dissent note. By the way, in the Kargil war several South Indians participated: a few of them died too. Now, we are coming to the point. The present day India is built by the blood and sweat of all the Indians across all the regions. Regarding rocketry and satellites, the European Space Agency has also imported a number of components from USA and vice versa. All said and done, please note that India does not manyfacture even the ICS despite all the technological advances. Miles to go before we sleep. Regional passion fuels zingoism and religious fervour festoons riouts. If we have to, we can carry an I-card (strongly recommended in times of free-for-all influx from across the borders) South Indians did sacrifice their lives on hill-tops of Kargil. But is it something special? No it is not . Why? Because Indian army wears no colour of division. It has a uniform. And that's about it. Come to think of it the centre has now posted a Naga regiment in the midst of Chattisgarh to combat the naxalites! Every region has something unique and then it has something in unique. Can it be explained why Kerala has got away by using the punch line 'God's own Country' in its tourism promos? It is a sacrilege to project evocation of God's reccomendation for an outright commercial venture and then Constitutionally speaking Kerala is only a state of the Soverighn Democratic Republic of India. This is contemptuos and should be revoked in the best interest of the nation. That no one has spoken about it only goes to show that many matters remain casual and vague untill some unrest related to that issue blows over. Gandhi is dead, no doubt about it. For we see the decaying ruins of his ideals strewn around the country.
