english is widely used in india though it was a foreign language.we are forerunners in the IT industry due to the proficeiency in english.
Urdu language is a subcontinent language, even the common indian speaks dialect mixed with hindi and urdu.
the bollywood produces hindustani films ( neither hindi or urdu).
your hatred towards the urdu speaking community is visible with your words

Apart from the reasons stated by you please note that Urdu is one of the world' sweetest languages. Half our Bollywood music would not sound the way it does without Urdu. Thanks to Bollywood Urdu has been kept alive in India or else it would have died given the govt. apathy towards it. And for all to note I am not a Muslim but a right thinking secular Indian.

Dear b/bee, I think you are less familier with the culture. Urdu is a language invented by Ameer Khusro In Delhi, Though it is a National Language of Pakistan it is a hybrid of Hindi & Persian (Farsi). Hindi is conventionally written in Devanagari and draws vocabulary from Sanskrit comparatively more heavily. Linguists nonetheless consider Urdu and Hindi to be two standardized forms of the same language. And Urdu draws vocabulary more heavily from Persian and Arabic. If you r bee, i will suggest you to become honey-bee not a house fly. Bollywood is not a total Film Industry of India agree with this. But Amithbh/ Khans are definitely not the Persons to whome we are doing poojas. They are actors and for that they are getting Remunaration like Rajanikant and others. Nobody is a great infront of Income Tax departmant.

Hi guys, its about the interest they have in the subject. All our bollywood movies are pretty much liked by asians and south-east asians. However, the Americans are interested in a sort of mind games and not love games. That makes them more attracted towards "Star wars" kind of movies. So, be it. What makes difference is that, a simple matter can create a rift among us!! right.

Living in the US for many many years now, I still have to come accross ONE american...not Indian-living-in-USA, who knows any Bollywood stars..khan or no khan. When the media says "oh, the Indian stars have a fan following in London and NY, what they actually mean is that an Indian residing abroad has recognized them. Its about time we accepted the facts and not mislead ourselves that Bollywood is an international movie medium and that non-hindi speaking people are flocking to the movies to see the Khans or Kapoors or the Bachchans. Come on people...grow up and say it the way it is!

you are right . No one knows about bollywood , may be there is a chance of them knowing Aishwarya rai becoz she appeared in david lettreman show. Apart from that they dont know nor do they care as most of the indian movies low standard and do not appeal to them.

You know, that is not entirely true. I have 6 american friends myself that know Shah Rukh Khan. Its beside the point that they watch only his movies, and no other hindi movies. But at least they know about Bollywood. We are not fooling ourselves completely, just that the awareness is not as much as one would hope for.

I'm American, and not NRI either..I mean white, Irish descendent American..and I know who the Khans are (SRK, Aamir, Salman), but I do admit there aren't many..I think I'm the only one in my state that likes Bollywood.

RE:the brillant actor
by pradeep saini on Jan 09, 2008 03:23 AM
I believe he is one of the rare Indian movie stars to colors himself as per the character. And then we have the Bachchans who'll Bachchanize every role till it looks like pretty much the same frown growl and hiss. An actor - and I am a trained one too - is tought to ACT..that is not be oneself anymore, and ACT like the person in the script to such minute detail that you don't remain yourself anymore. Surprisingly..and its actually a pity, that our celebrated actors like Salman, and Amitabh..etc, have forgotten what it is to be a character and not to be oneself. Irrfan comes pretty close to don the garb of the character. Bravo Irrfan!! Hope to see more of your kind around!!
