SANJAY DUTT
by drax on Dec 03, 2008 09:58 PM

Sanjay Dutt seems not to have learnt his lesson and is giving his croc tears. He still hobnobs with terrorists and gangsters(there was a recorded conversation between him and Chota Shakeel with ref to elimination of certain actors against them) and wants us to believe how traumatised he is.

Sanjay Said It
by Kalyan Kumar on Dec 03, 2008 09:23 PM

His reference to VIPs making themselves secure at the tax payer's expense and leaving the ordinary folks to the hands of terrorists struck me. Democracy is a leveller and in India it has made a big divide--powerful and secure and helpless insecure common man.

That is brave
by Aby Koshy on Dec 03, 2008 08:55 PM

For Sanjay Dutt to be commenting is indeed brave! And commendable. As a revered priest of the Church once commented, "the difference betweena thief and I is that the thief was caught."

We all have times in our lives that we seek answers in rebellion to established authority. We are seeing such an act right now. There is understandable and sometimes even right reasons for such response. But when the time lapses, the wise sit down and formulate their future strategy so that the lessons learnt in a tragedy do not need to learned again.

There were reasons for Sanjay Dutt to have taken up arms, as heinous as the reasons were. He was caught. But the honourable court in its wisdom has seen it fit to leave Mr. Dutt with a mild sentence. Though I do not approve of the sentence, I would not rant against the court's judgement. But considering Mr. Dutt's post-Mumbai-riots behaviour, I am happy that the courts did as they did.

And the comments above are further evidence that Mr. Dutt does not contemplate taking law into his own hands, under trying circumstances.

It is a lesson to a lot among us to tighten our moral and ethical fabric so that we do not stumble or go wayward in our search for justice.

If we don't act now, when will we?
by Sreeram Ramaswamy on Dec 03, 2008 07:28 PM

Pakistan's rejection of our demand to handover 20 terrorists shouldn't surprise anyone. They know for sure that our govt wouldn't do anything, and these empty rhetoric would die its natural death within a short span of time. Mumbaikars and all Indians are angry over the last week's Mumbai carnage. This Mumbai attack has happened after a series of serial bomb blasts that hit many cities across India. First serial blasts hit Mumbai in 1993. Series of serial blasts hit many cities across India in recent times. Even Parliament (the seat of power) was hit in 2001. What did our govt do? Nothing! Many of our fishermen who went fishing from the shores of Rameshwaram were killed in recent times by the Lankan Navy. What did our govt do? Nothing!

India is neither feared or respected by our neighbors, be it Pakistan, Bangladesh or SriLanka. This is b'cos of our govt's laidback "chalta hai" approach. Unfortunately after our late PM Indira Gandhi, who daringly went about liberating Bangladesh from the clutches of Pakistan, we haven't found any leader who can rally behind him the whole nation and stand up against the rogue elements.

If we don't act now, when will we?

Communal Harmony Day
by Atanu Chatterjee on Dec 03, 2008 07:28 PM

We have enough of Fathers day, Mothers day, Friends day, Lovers day, Children day etc and without devalueing any of them we need to have one Communal Harmony Day. This is a major weakness for a progressive nation like INDIA that people are not united. That either produce terrorists inside the country or gives the external evil force a huge opportunity to cash in on those holes.

We always find a way to fight amongst others, spit the venom of hatred to others in different forms, be it a common person of different religion or be it the person who speaks different language or be it our maid servant at home. Irrespective of caste, religion, region we must unite. We probably know about this problem but very ignorant and reluctant to act upon this.

If we can declare one such day, and take up activities of solidarity amongst the people in schools, colleges, offices, corporates - that would definitely turn on different sections/cultures of the society to come together, feel more indian than ever, keep the nationality way ahead of religion, region, caste etc, would help the cause of diverted people to get back into the mainstream.

Im not sure whether we already have one such day, if Yes its good that we have it, bad that many of us even do not know or realize of its existence.
