Nithya Ramani, please take a crash course on how to write movie reviews. What you have done here is a description of the story, which occupies over 99% of your write-up and then one line on the cinematography and Irfan Khan's performance!! This is followed by a ridiculous comment that says, "Overall, a watchable film". Is this a review?
If you want to write good reviews, please don't go to the Sukanya Varmas for advice. Instead learn from people like Bharadwaj Rangan (search Google for Blogical Conclusion). Looks like Economic Times have hired (or trained) some decent reviewers. Read their review of Mumbai Meri Jaan and see for yourself.

By the way, Economic Times have given the movie a 4 star rating. Here let me give you excerpts from their review: ... ... Amidst formula-driven films, only once in a while do you come across a movie which strikes chord with a social theme and is enormously entertaining at the same time. Only once in a while do you come across a movie that has an outstandingly original screenplay and more importantly it connects with the viewer convincingly. Only once in a while do you come across a movie that incites you emotionally and is technically flawless simultaneously. That's Mumbai Meri Jaan!!! ... ... Each episode runs independent of the other until they are correlated by the train blasts. While Rupali faces a personal loss, others remain individually unaffected. But the blast influences every individual's psyche implicitly. Nikhil develops a phobia for trains, Suresh's pessimism towards Muslims intensifies and Thomas uses the terror threat to his advantage. The parallel tracks beautifully congregate to a common climax.
... Mumbai Meri Jaan is sensitively scripted by Yogesh Vinayak Joshi and Upendra Sidhaye and sensibly directed by Nishikant Kamat. For critics complaining of incompetent scripts, here is a screenplay that is immaculate, intelligent and emotionally binding.

Even through its realistic proceedings, the film invokes spontaneous humour through everyday escapades and doesn't have to go for farcical subplots. The way in which the nonentity Irrfan Khan is glamourized in the second half is imaginatively hilarious. Also, though Paresh Rawal doesn't thankfully repeat his regular comic act, he hides his character's inabilities through shades of humour.
While the film embraces an underlying social theme, it at no point tends to get preachy and also steers away from taking sides or getting judgmental. It's the director's slice-of-life approach that makes you receive the film with an unconditional open mind. Each scene has its own relevance to the script and even if there's a feeling that the second half needs some trimming, one would realize that none of the scenes are redundant. ... ... In another scene from the film, the senior constable (Rawal) says to his junior, "Mumbai mein sirf picture dekhne ka, acting nahi karne ka" (Just be a spectator, don't attempt acting). It's this evasive sense of responsibility that the film highlights our attention to. At least as an audience, be responsible enough to respect such cinematic attempts.
Have you seen the treaty of Kashmirs...How can you justify killing of .5 Million Hindus!!! That way you can justify Jewish killings by Hitler (due to his superior race) and Congress' killings of Sikh's (big tree fall!), Killing of Christians (Islamic ego and pride!) and Killings in Gujrat (Godhra massacre).
See nothing can justify genocide....just because Hindus are tolerant doesn't means that any1 can kill us and we will accept whatever justification they give.....
Hindus are becoming more and more intolerant, aggressive and militant day by day...so for forces working against Hindus and Hinduism.....I have only 1 word: BEWARE

BEWARE OF WHAT MY FRIEND... DO YOU THINK THEY SEPARATED THE MUSLIMS BEFORE BLASTING THAT FIRST CLASS COMPARTMENT.... ILLITERACY can be curbed but a mind who is thinking about being militant can be only destroyed. THINK BEFORE U WRITE.... it is just a BAD REVIEW nothing else. So dont get excited. TakE Care & yeah BEE WEAR.
hey guys this is a forrum to discuss the film MUMBAI MERI JAAN and not to have a hindu muslim fight. i think all those who are fighting here must go and see the film and understand what harmony really means and trust me no hindu or no muslim is born a terrorist. people like us who fight over such petty issues encourage their births. so instead of talking rubbish watch the film and make an effort to make a difference in society
YOU HAVE WRITTEN THAT THE PERFRMANCE OF ALL THE ACTORS IS GOOD AND THE PEOPLE REALLY FEEL THE IMPACT OF THE BLAST WHEN YOU SEE THE MOVIE , AND YOU SAY THAT THE MOVIE IS A MUST WATCH THEN YOU GIVE 2 1/2 STARS TO THE MOVIE , NITHYA PLS GIVE UP WRITING ABOUT THE MOVIES COS YOU ARE NOT THE RIGHT PERSON TO COMMENT UPON THE CINEM .

RE:two cancers of Humanity by Arif on Aug 22, 2008 11:56 AM Permalink There have been many praying for the death of Islam but just see when your father was praying for it, Islam was at 9% now you are praying it is at 22% when your child will pray it will be at 50% and probably your grandchild wont have any such prayer because he/she might be muslim. :-)

This is far better movie than usual fare like om shanti om and god tussi..etc and not like documentary as mentioned above. This should be seen by all and deserves box office success!. Kudos to the director & photographer & all lead actors.

Agree with u. Nishikanth Kamath is a talanted director & people should encourage such deserving people by making such films box office hit rather than watching third grade movies like OSO, God tussi.
