I watched this movie and I say this is one of the recent best bollywood movie. Not because it traps emotion, but because of its screenplay. It desrves a 4 star and rediff really sucks
Another set of episodes about losers and chronic complainers. Not a complicated movie to direct, but most viewers will like it, as it will trap your emotions. Movie makers have to educate people in a better way, by including better tech and scientific facts/fictions. Indian reality sucks. Enough portraying the same in a different theme.
The movie, content and acting - all of them are great overall and what a fine direction. Only thing I would say is the pace could be picked up a bit. Sometimes, detailing leads to slower pace and that is how you feel sometimes and my reason for giving it 3.5 instead of 4 stars. I am glad that the end of the movie was positive and realistic that these things happen in life and we need to continue forward. Also, I disagree with lot of reviewers or trade analysts saying that the movie is documentary...that is totally absurd. If a subject does not need songs and dances, it does not make it documentary.
This is a movie probably every responsible Indian should watch. It portrays our fears, anxiety, tragedy and finally the truimph of human spirit. It is one of the cleanest movie of our times. There is no overacting, excess glamour running around trees or with the script. The amazing acting of Paresh Rawal, Irrfan khan, Madhavan, KK and Soha is really worthwhile spending money one. The passion called Mumbai moves on despite all obstacles, rises from ashes as a phoenix.
Well done Nishi, we need more intelligent movies like this rather than the weepy, creepy stuff.
Mumbai meri jaan is the latest flick to borrow its title from age old vintage classic songs, starting from the trend setter DDLJ about 15 years ago, to the other co - releases Bachna Ae Haseeno and Jaane tu ya jaane na. In fact, Nishinkant Kamat also delectably uses the classic old song in the final scene depicting that Mumbai is as much a “Meri Jaan” to a Mumbaikar, even today, as it was 4 to 5 decades ago.
The story line depicts irony in our day to day lives, especially in the news reporter who makes stories out of incidents, becomes a story herself; or a cop who sees his alter ego in his conscientious colleague and laments at having no true success story to narrate about his service, on retiring after 35 years of successful service; or how a split second decision of changing bogey from I Class to II Class can change your life. It also shows how our preconceived notions or prejudices can be belied by the reality of the situation; as a man biased against a community is destined for sun shine in life from that very community person.
I give 10/10 to the director on detailing and would like to quote one particular scene, which I wonder how many viewers have observed. When Suresh (Kay Kay Menon) and his friend go to Yusuf’s house, there is a picture of Shirdi Sai Baba on the cupboard in this Muslim’s house. Frankly, my friend and I were for a moment chuckling at this oddity, which we thought was the director’s oops moment, a blooper; only to realize later that it was h
I can't believe how shoddily written the review for this movie is. I am a regular rediff review checker and have so far, enjoyed the style, the poise and the perceptions that other reviewers have brought to their reviews. This is the first time I have read a review that is so lack lustre, simplistic and ingorant in its analysis, that it does a severe injustice to a very well made film.
I was under the impression that the reviewer has more to do than retell the story of the movie. There are no impressions, no analysis of the commentary, not a single perspective (except to repeat the movie looks like a documentary! Oh, the horror, the horror!) that the reviewer has offered which is anything more than a ten minute scribble on a note-pad while the title credits were running. I think the movie is incredible, the review is at best, abysmal.

I totally agree. The reviewer has practised plagarism on several places. Read Taran Adarsh's review on bollyoodhungama.com and you would see what I am talking about. Can't believe she would have actually got paid for it.

Cant agree more with you. Probably reviewer felt since this is not a typical vulgur comedy which are ruling the box office these days so it will end up as a flop so why not present it as a shoddy work. Insult to a very fine work.

I agree with you too ....... totally writing off such a movie as a documentary is shocking ...... one of the most positve movies that bollywood has produced .... it actually celebrates the true spirit of Mumbai and India as a whole ....... kudos to the director
mumbaikar will definitely associte themesleves with the film.... its not regular masala, comedy type of a film... peple might call this film as an art film but its not.. movie like OSO, Hey baby, welcome even though they r superhit films, but after an year you will foget them...watch this film once, you will remember for ur lifetime...a must watch film....
This is so far the best movie that came in year 2008. Fantastic direction, awesome acting by all lead stars and good storyline. This movie could have been better in cinematography and script but considering this is Nishikanth Kamaths first movie, full marks to him. A must see movie. Miss at your own peril

Nishikant has already made a Marathi movie "Dombivli Fast" that he remade into Tamil as "Evano Oruvan". That is also an incredible movie. Hats off, Nishikant!
This was a stupid film. Nothing great about it. Good that I watched it online. With such good reviews by people in this forum I had made up my mind to watch it in theatre. Fortunately, it didnt release at many places in US and hence saved me my valuable money. I wd rate mughle-a-azam better than this even when its another of recent worst films. TOTALLY DULL FILM. Wierd ending. Should be rated as an ART movie
