Kannada linguistic terrorists and chauvinists???? What do you mean by that? Just imagine if Tamil language and culture is being sidelined by outsiders in Tamil Nadu. Will you be able to take the heat? Same thing is happening in Bangalore. Outsiders doesn’t respect the local language and culture and they always make fun of us.

Recently I read news that a lawyer in Chennai filed a petition in Chennai high court against the declaration of classical status for Kannada language. Who is he to intervene in our internal matters? Such kind of things ignites anyone and hence associations like KRV came into existence in this world. Good that we have associations like KRV. For your information they are fighting for the rights of language in Karnataka and not in Tamil Nadu. Don’t we have rights to fight for the language in our state when Tamilians can fight for the rights in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, etc.?

Marathi is not a classical language. We accept that and do not apply for that just because the neighbouring state has a classical language. (Thats because we have brains and understand history.)

But yaar, you could not answer my question. Lemme repeat in other words, What is the meaning of Classical language if all Indian languages apply for that status?

why should not other languages apply ,if they claim they can back it up with proofs? y it should pain tamilians? no one has patented classical langauge status here..when center has set up a committe to review it,y should it pain others? coming to marathi langauge, there is nothing much in literature history which u can claim!both kannada and telugu deserve to have classical status and they will get it sooner or later!

It is typical defeatist mentality when you say that decisions are influenced against karnataka... on the same note tamilians would raise a hue and cry when the decision goes against them...

It is just a discussion here, and my point is that we need not be unnecessarily flustered about languages...

when all states are united to forma country (ours is not a federal setup as in the US), then one must abide by a common law... to do this we have to rise above our regional interests...

The best solution would be to dissolve all the states and bring back the zonal system (purely for administrative purposes)

water sharing issue is there since ages..i guess it was there even before independence.. accusing one state is not going to solve the issue.. the thing is both state leaders never really aimed to solve the issue.. the panel must have ppl and leaders from the affected to parts to come up a solution on concensus which never took place

Karnataka always had a tough time. When BJP was ruling the center there was congress which was ruling Karnataka. But now BJP in Karnataka but congress in the center. So the verdicts always use to go against Karnataka.

Tamilians going against Rajanikanth?
by thribhuvan hk on Aug 18, 2008 04:32 PM  | Hide replies

Why all of a sudden Tamilians are going dead against Rajani? Why are they calling him coward? Why do they want him to be kicked out of TamilNadu? What crime he has done? Is it all because of his apology to Kannadigas?

Of course he did the right thing - apologizing to the people of Karnataka. I am not saying this because I am Kannadiga but because Rajani could realize that he should have been more sensitive while giving comments (which went against Kannadigas). He spent his first half in Karnataka. People in Karnataka like him like the Tamilians do and hence he tried to balance act between both the states. Please understand this. There are plenty of Kannadigas in TamilNadu and many Tamilians who are staying in Karnataka. These kinds of hatred comments between us will not be good for both the states and of course for India.

There are some bad social elements in Karnataka who will try to politicize but there is no point in blaming the Kannadigas. Can we blame Tamilians because of one bad social element called “LTTE”?

Hi,
It seems there are few good kannadigas also.
I partially agree ur comment, but i want to say one thing abt petition against giving classical status to Kannada language, we are not against that we want that no one from Karnataka should be there in that committe. Becoz when tamil was there in the process for classical status not even single tamilian in that committe and indian govt given classical status to tamil when tamil scholars from other countries supported like americans and russians. We want the same thing shd be followed now also. Otherwise, everyone will ask for classical status to their language by using their political power. This is not a choclate we can give to whoever wants and there shd be respect and displine.

Regarding Hogenkkal, why KRV & Ediyurappa wants that hogenkkal shd be connected to Karnataka which is belongs to tamil nadu. Will u give the places whichever we lost to karnataka while dividing the states like Bangalore, Kudagu, Kollegal and Kolar? If u ppl are ready to give that back to tamil nadu and we are ready for resurvey.

Every state, city, religion, company, etc. has its own good and bad elements.
Well you have right to ask about the people who are going to be part of committee and yes none of them were Kannadigas, which I extracted from local news paper in Bangalore. So are you happy?

Regarding ‘Hogenekkal’ – Well I hope you are intelligent enough to know how 4 South Indian states were formed. It was based on the languages spoken in the regions. Those regions which spoke Tamil were picked and put into TN. And the same was done for the other states KA, KL and AP. When you split ‘Hogenekkal’ into two – it becomes Hoge (mist or water vapor) Kallu (stone or rock). You can see both water and rocks are found in ‘Hogenekkal’. Hence based on this ‘Hogenekkal’ should belong to Karnataka and the same is being written in “Mahajan Report” (This came into existence when there was a border dispute between 4 South Indian states). And hence Karnataka has every right to know the technical specification of ongoing project. Infact I had been to ‘Hogenekkal’ once and was surprised to see many Kannadigas in that region.

I am but surprised to see you with such a sensible comment. Are you the same Sandy who use to put hatred comments against Kannadigas?

Seems that the border problem between our states is a more serious matter that that with pakistan or china...!!!

If we were to go by names only, then there has to be pockets within a certain state that would belong to other states...

Be practical, what is the problem with karnataka - be it congress or bjp, they have the same attitude towards water sharing; i do not glorify karunanidhi or the dmk govt., but this water sharing issue has made our states seem like separate countries!!!

karnataka on one side and kerala on the other...

You are 100% correct. Every state is behaving like separate country. TN has KA on one side and KL on the other side. Similarly KA has TN, AP on one side and MH, KL on the other sides. So every state has its own set of problems and there is no point in you proving that TN is being harassed by KA and KL. Until and unless we unite together these issues cannot be resolved.

Tell me how on earth u got this idea that Bangalore belonged to TN?. U 'ko....' get your facts right before u talk anything stupid like this. I bet Karnataka people can come up with a much bigger list(the list of places that had to be part of Karnataka) than what u have mentioned.
For your kind info- actually Madras should have gone to AP instead of TN. Madras/Chennai was built by Andhra reddys, naidus and chettiyars and funded by all four southern states. It is like great britain's wealth prospered by India. During the british regime, Madras got all the funds and so indirectly looted all the other states in Southern India. Many people from there think that they still have the same previlages and that is the reason why they are so arrogant. That is the primary reason why we have cauvery and hogenekkal issues.
Have some sensistivity towards others and by 'others' I mean people who speak other languages. Just because your language has classical status- it does not mean that u people are royal or classics. U people still have just two eyes, two ears, two legs and two hands and maybe the only extra thing maybe 'TWO BIG HORNS" on your head. Good luck with those two horns- people like u will have great fun with that in the future.

First of all I would like to say that you are not talking mindless hatred messages. I just want to clarify why Rajnis apology is hurting us. If he thinks that he had hurt the sentiment of Kannadigas, he could have done that immediately. but when his movie is about to be released, if he apologises, it means he doesnt give a damn about Kannadigas and Tamils. His only concern is money.

I do not know how many takers for my following comment. when I see the original malayalam movie " katha parayum pole" immediately it struck me that this is movie which Kamal hassan should do in Tamil. It would have suited him very much. With Kamal in Mammooty's role, Nazar or Pasupathi in Srinivasan's role and Crazy Mohan dialogue ( Specialist in making comedy with Barbers and rest) the movie would have been normal hit.
In the malayalam movie, Mammooty has been shown as a star who is not reachable easily by fans or others. But Rajni is not so, he is very friendly and easily approachable ( that's what I undrestand from reports). Peeple in Tamil nadu immediately compared the movie with real Rajni and that's the main reason that movie got bombed.
I pity the distributors who paid high price and theatre owners who changed their good running movies (Dasaavatharam and Subramaniapuram) for this.

Kuselan was a badly made remake.

In the original movie, the hero was neither Srinivasan nor Mamooty. The actual hero was the simple story itself, and the great performances supporting it.

Kuselan was apparently promo'ed as a Rajni/Nayanthara movie and Pasupathy and Meena were there just for the sake of it.

It looked like P. Vasu tried to recreate the magic of Chandramukhi, and he thought Rajni's presence and Nayan's items would do the trick. But the audience did not think so. Also chandramukhi had Vidyasagar's music working in its favour. Kuselan's music is very forgettable.

All in all, this directionless remake ended up where it was supposed to. Poetic Justice.
