Spellings and Grammer
by S N on Apr 16, 2008 12:32 PM  | Hide replies

Folks,

Quite a few responses to my message.. Thanks.

One thing I have observed is whenever u differ from rest u r bound to get responses. Just like Raja Sen does and few others. Thanks for replies, many I could not see coz they have been removed as abuse but I can imagine the content..
Regarding spelling and grammer of my message, This is not my profession. I just type it fast in between the break and there r bound to be mistakes syntactically, symantically and typographically.. Please excuse me, I dont review my message before I click on Submit button as long as it says my thoughs on particular subject.. I dont care about the impression it gives to readers. I am just doing it for timepass to take break from work.

Dear SN,

A little piece of advice :
Why take the trouble to "clarify" your intent when some petty remarks about yr language or spelling-mistakes are made ?
You need not.
After all, we know (just as you do) what you intended to say.
As long as people don't take pervert pleasure in simply
(1) running someone down ... or
(2) adding to the din & noise all around...
it should be fine.
I wonder who said what about your remarks.
They were pretty clearly understood.

And do not liken yourself to Raja Sen.
That's enough fodder for the masses to train their guns at you, and fill up this forum with more abuse & spam.
It's so fashionable these days.

And carry on with your comments, absolutely no problem.

Dear Mr. Sen,

There goes your ego bubble again 'a few filmaker buds want me to talk about their films'... I pity these filmakers. Your point about bollywood taking lifts is valid.
But tell me how many of your beloved violence ridden Hollywood cinema is original. All those comic book capers, those devices about a grey character turning out to be good, retired cops saving the day, some lawyer mouthing platitudes, an ubiquitous black character who is alarmingly loud, a woman who suddenly discovers her sexuality when confronted with a 'charming' middle-aged man and what about an almost bollywood style film like Pearl Harbour or Moulin Rouge.
If you have an iota of intellectual honesty, criticise these aspects in Hollywood. And then we will talk. It is very easy to criticise your own and much too difficult to see where you really stand. You can think you are the most knowledgeable on western cinema. But this sample this, a notable intellectual from Bengal once found grammatical flaws in a piece of literature penned by Churchill. The British PM succintly replied %u2018English is the language, Englishmen speak%u2019. Hope you get the point

I have clearly said he has a point about copyrights. What he does not have is the sweeping authority to denigrate all things Bollywood. Dont get caught up by this man's language, get to the subtext of what he says. And that is ,'All Hindi films are mediocore and that he of all people has such superior insights into cinema'.
Hope you read stuff better before replying.

I find you too sarcastic for reasonable debates.
Your accusation of Sen carries the same vitriol which you're accusing him of !!!!
Most of us agree he doesn't have sweeping authority on Western cinema, but did he ever claim so ? It's too petty a counter-argument.... similar to boorishly asking who gave the National Awards Committee sweeping powers to decide who's best !!!
And when you are busy not-so-politely advising people to get to the sub-text of what he's saying, aren't you too caught up in taking offense everytime he's denigrating Indian cinema.
And truth be told, we did see quite a few of our own creations praised/recommended by Sen. So much for your advice of "Hope you read stuff better before replying". There are so many among us who share Sen's aversion to Hindi cinema. And yes, we do read stuff before replying.
Especially MORE than what you have apparently done, to be able to say that Sen has NOT denigrated all & everything.

And NO, he has not claimed SOLE superior insights into cinema.

If you read it that way.... that he has indeed claimed so.... well, amusing.
(In the interests of being polite)

remaking

i really dont know y a hue and cry is made abt copying movies. I think it takes whole lot of brainstorming to actually make a movie that the Indian masses relate with.
