Telugu classics like Shankarabharanam, Sagara Sangamam, Swathi Mutyam, Megha Sandesam, Swarnakamalam, Rudraveena...all had a either a social or musical aspect to them. That was the time of K.Viswanath.
Hope more directors like Rajnesh Domalapalli bring back some sanity into the world of Telugu cinema.
nice read, although writer failed to mention that a tamil movie 'the terrorist' directed by santhosh sivan has also recieved 4 stars from ebert.but still its nice to know that someone has come up with such a good work.
We need these guys. When u have passion, creativity we can see such movies.Satyajith ray used to make such movies.we see only blips of such genre.Dont moan buddies, its true that cinema's also reflect our thinking, how we are.As indian is 50% uneducated,as in every walk of life we see psychophancy, how can gandhis come in every field, thats why we see crap movies in telugu like Chiranjeevi(atlease he came up on his own, rags to riches),Balakrishna(NTR Son),Jr NTR(harikrishna illegal son),Nagarjuna(akkineni son),Venkatesh(Ramanaidu son),Mohan Babu(real life villain). As also Rajnikanth(rags to riches) and kamal hasan(nobody appreciates him except non-tamils).When hero becomes larger than life, mediocre psychophancy movies they will make, catering to uneducated mass.Once u make it big,u r surrounded hero centric movies.sometimes Maniratnams, balachanders(rajnikanth, kamal, chiranjeevi were born),gulzars, satyajit rays, night shyamalans will always make mark with their brilliance.Instead of mafia patronage like D'company controlling bombay movies,if we made them corporate maybe we will see global films like shekar kapoor.
It feels really great.. I am a telugu and I am big big fan of Roger ebert. I always wished for Roger to watch a telugu film and give it a good review... Now..I regret for not watching this movie in LA for the last film festival...
