For Amithabh Bachan, he is the finest actor in the country. For RGV, he is the Robert De Niro of Indian Screen. For TIME magazine, he is India's answer to Marlon Brando. For Sunil Shetty, he is the God of Cinema. For Kamal Haasan, he is the most flexible actor in India. For Shaji N Karun, he is the most immensely talented actor. For Priyadarshan, he is the best actor India has ever produced.Manirathnam and Dr.Rajkumar are two frontline fans of this great actor. For all of us he is our "Lalettan".

Introducing the best kept secret of Kerala, MOHANLAL.

He is the common man, he is the superman and sometimes he is everything in between and beyond. The more you try to describe him, the more he becomes indescribable !

If you notice these Rediff columns, anytime a column or article about South India appears all the uncivilised idiots from Bihar(North India) appear out of nowhere and start their anti-South gibberish while you dont find any South Indians starting any anti North stuff for the rest of the articles.
This itself shows the culture and class of these BIMARU people.
They are no different from the people in Aghanistan and Pakistan, which basically ended up terrorist states.
I wish similar fate to these people, though one might argue they are already in a similar situation.

righly said, Biju, its their honour. and lakhs of mohanlal fan's dream in taking such a photo..
Sajith - what you expect an actor should behave. by saying "not caring you at all" do you expect a man, who has been in the industry for 25 years, meeting thousands of fans everyday, should pose for each time when the fans take a snap ! think for a while before making nasty comments to those smart fans, else keep your mouth shut !

Snaps are bluff!!

Quoting Benny George who wrote "These photos seems to be fake, especially the first pic, where mohanlals righhand shirt seems to be disolved into the mans pocket"

Benny seems to be exactly right. I saved the sanps in PC and zoomed in the snaps. There is clear blur near mohan lal's shirt.

Why are the bl-oo-dy fools jijo and Shajo taking rediff and viewers for a ride? Even their names seem to be fake, look at the rhyming between the names.

Biggest Box Office Reach of INDIAN STARS:-
by abc_xyz abc_xyz on Oct 31, 2007 11:56 AM  | Hide replies

Hi,

Mohanlal might be one of the best actors (not the best, i wont agree with that though), but when it comes to box office draw and collections, its only Hindi, Tamil and Telugu stars who acceed to the top.
Here is the top 10 (based on their recent films' BO performances).

1. Rajnikanth (Tamil) -> His latest film SIVAJI has collected close to 150cr share worldwide, making it the biggest blockbuster in the history of indian films, even beating SHOLAY by a close margin though. His previous film Chandramukhi amazed a record 115 crores share. Undisputed king of South India and Overseas.

2. Shah Rukh Khan (hindi) -> Whether he acts or not, whether people like his mannerism or not, his movies sell, and they sell big. His latest OSO, sold for 75 crores is a testimony to his box office draw. Overseas, he is simply the king, second only to Rajni. Even an avg movie of his like Don collected more than 70 crores worldwide.

3. Chiranjeev (Telugu) -> Four of his recent movies in the last 6 years, netted more than 32 crores (Indra, Tagore, Shankardada MBBS, Stalin), with his movie Tagore celebrating 100 days in about 190 theatres. Indian Record !!!! Andhra's No 1 by miles.

4. Hrithick Roshan (Hindi) --> Very stylish, extremely good looking, dashing debonair, with a perfect macho body and dance movements, along with his fathers support swept him to stardom. A highly reliable star, who gave one of the biggest hits of bollywood with Dhoom 2 and Krish. His popularity in south is also unma

His popularity in south is also unmathched, as his filsm get dubbed into tamil/telugu often.

5. Vijay (Tamil) --> he may not have done experiments. he may not even know how to act in certain scenarios. But he knows his strengths ie dance, comedy and plays accordingly. He is the undisputed youth icon of tamil nadu and has the second highest fan following among tamil stars after rajnikanth. His movies open to an earth-shaterring number, and collections galore. His biggest hit Ghilli, collected a record 50 crores at the box office. Extremely popular in Overseas and Kerala, apart from Tamil Nadu.

6. Mahesh babu (Telugu) -> upcoming superstar of telugu industry, his movie POKIRI shattered telugu box office and created a record 48-50 crores net share, thereby becoming the highest telugu grosser in its 75 yrs history. His latest ATHIDI opened to a mind-blowing opening, cashing in 22cr 1st week share. He is second only to chiru in terms of box office, potential superstar in the making.

Spots 7-10 are extremly difficult to accertain as they change with films often. However some of the stars who could fit into those slots:

Aamir Khan (Hindi)
Kamal Hassan(Tamil)
Jr NTR (Telugu)
Ajith (Tamil)
Vikram (Tamil)
Akshay kumar (Hindi)
Shivraj Kumar(Kannada)

Please note : this list is based on box office stamina, not based on acting talents. Many tremendous actors of other languages fail to make it, not because of their acting, but because of their language's limited reach (like bengali, malayalam, kannada, marathi etc)

Hey abc_xyz abc_xyz,

Whats this? If somebody doesnt stop you, you might very well write upto the 100th Spot in indian cinema! You write with so much authority as if you seem to be the god father of the whole film industry.

You seem to be considering only box office collection as you told in two places in your post: (a) "but when it comes to box office draw and collections, its only Hindi, Tamil and Telugu stars who acceed to the top." (b) "this list is based on box office stamina, not based on acting talents. Many tremendous actors of other languages fail to make it, not because of their acting, but because of their language's limited reach (like bengali, malayalam, kannada, marathi etc)"

Art or artista are difficult to rate, and one needs to be clear as to what you are looking at to rate them.

Dont shout the ratings you have prepared at these sites! Just like you think Rajani, SRK and Chiru are the BEST actors, some others think its mohan lal. leave it there.

A great actor
by satish.sreekumar on Oct 31, 2007 11:53 AM

Whatever people here talks about Mohanlal's 'bad' habits, let's not bother about it as it is his personal affair. Let's think only about his acting skills.

He stated his career in film industry as a villain. His great days started after he teamed up with Priyadarshan and Srinivasan. While his numerous comedy movies made us forget all our worries and laugh merrily atleast for 2 hours, his natural acting in several movies made us love him as a great actor.

I would have seen all his movies but I loved to watch 'Chitram', 'Amrutham Gamaya', 'Sanmanasullavarkku Samadhanam', 'Namukku Parkaan Munthiri Thoppugal', 'Balettan' just to name a few n number of times.

I wish him many more glory years of stardom.
