There is no point in discussing about TN govt's awards. It is purely political.MK wanted to please Rajini thats the only reason for this award.Kamal is a very good actor but still he don't deserve an award for VV.Karthik for Paruthi Veeran deserved the best actor award.Don't start MK bashing immediately. It is very common in India.BJP govt gave best actor National award to Anil Kapoor for a crap movie called Pukar.Copy cat Anu Malik got the national award for best music director during BJP rule. All the govt awards in India are politically motivated. This is not new.One of India's best actors Sivaji Ganesan has no National awards to his credit. But MGR got one for Rikshakaran. This is clear example of the bias and politics involved in Indian govt awards. In 1992 Mohanlal got the Best actor national award for Bharatham.Even though Mohanlal is one of india's best actors Bharatham is not one of his best performances. In that year Kamal's Performance in Mahanadhi deserved the award. There are numerous examples like this and there is no end to it.

As on date on one can dance and fight on screen like Vijay can? And being a non-tamil you may not appreciate but his Tamil diction is very good. That covers a lot of acting abilities as far as masala movies are concerned. I agree that if Kamal can be awarded for VV, he could be awarded for practically every one of his movies!

I don't think people like vijay, rajini who does movies masala films shouldn't be given ,but giving vijay Dr (doctrate) award was too much.

Why is creating an impact on 'hindi actors' (or may be you mean northern audience) so important? And for that matter your take that Kamal is better looking- if it is based on skin colour - is purely racist!

Ravi, Sadly your statements are very personal opinions that are racist, may be out of an inferiority complex. Agreed Kamal has cut across language barrier a lot more consistently. But Chiranjeevi although he has acted in a few tamil and hindi movies, I don't think he made an impact- atleast not greater than Rajini. Rajini's telugu movies or even dubs have done well consistently from 'Anna Thammudu savaal' to latest Sivaji. And we are talking about two of the three big film industries in India today. His Chandramukhi ran to packed houses in Kerala and Karnataka after they had local versions that were mega-hits. I don't think your theory of Kerala and KN packed with Tamils explains the above phenomenon. And to think that Japan and Malaysia is packed with Tamils is not true either. Like it or not, Rajinikant has star power and that transcends TN/ South India/ India, definitely. Something that very few Indian actors can claim.

Useless... B'wood makes some stupid and senseless movies. without knowing the language and culture dont make such stupid comments, also no personal attacks. Understand one thing that most of the actress in South Indian films are from N India and Rajinikant has no comparison. 2nd highest paid actor in asia next only to Jackie Chan.
Tollywood refers the Telugu film industry which churns out the highest number of movies every year. Tamil cinema is called Kollywood in South India. Why is rediff writing articles on south if it is not popular with the terms. Of course all these are copied errr. inspired by Hollywood.
RE:Tollywood
by Krish on Oct 17, 2007 08:23 PM
You are right and wrong. While Tollywood has nothing to do with Tamil films, it has been reassigned to Telugu, since the emergence of hydrabad based telugu film industry and virtual collapse of bengali films.
