Bhool Bhulaiyaa
by Mac Singh on Nov 28, 2007 11:00 PM

One of the years biggest hit Bhool Bhulaiyaa, was a woman oriented film...also, a few years ago Raaz happened.these were gud films thats y they worked. Similarly, RGV ki AAG is the years biggest flop, and a few years ago LOC(though a good film) happened. They were male dominated films but still they failed.
So,directors, plz make gud films or else any film whether having a hero or not, will crash. It does not matter whether its a hero oriented film or a heroine oriented film.the film should be good if it has to work.

All of us are forgetting "Mitr - My Friend", a women centric film that showed the entangled & then a liberal world of a married woman. The movie was critically aclaimed and received applause home & overseas

Too feminist, too preachy

Women oriented films are not really family centric. They suffer from bitterness of feminism and too much male bashing. Only males who are shown in good light are ones who toe feminist line or tag along. Rest are shown in poor light, as bad characters, insignificant. The so-called leftist movies that earn kudos in leftist international festivals and declared as art movies never succeed commercially for the same reasons. Too heavy with slanted message, too preachy, too boring, too slow, no entertainment value - now why would someone spend their own money to see such crap? Look at TV serials that have been so successful - most of them are dominated by strong women characters - they get their message across without being preachy or sacrificing entertainment value. People can relate to seeing strong women in family setting. But feminist-oriented movies can have none of that. They can't deal with women in positive family setting and still being strong and powerful. As a result, that lose women too as an audience.

Helooooo Rediff, look at the liat of films that u have been trashed by the public: Sherni... zakhmi aurat, Umrao jaaan... Yuuuuck...
Then again look at films even the smaller ones that they have liked, Damini, Mrityudand, Lajja. Even Dor, is a shining example of a small budgeted women oriented film doing well. Also there was bend it like beckham that worked and a shitty pride and prejudice or provoked that didnt. Bottom line, being a women oriented film is not enuf. if its a good, film (entertainer, comedy, social drama, whatever), it will sell. Else CRASH. So my dear film makers, pls make a good film. Also Bazaar, Chandni, Parineeta and Black were women dominated films and they worked. So once again, make good film... it worx. Make Horrible film... it crashes

I agree the women oriented movies are always about some boring social cause whereas hero oriented films you have hundreds of options from romance to action to comedy. That's why the women oriented movies fail because they're so preachy and boring whereas the hero ones are hit because they're just about whatever not an issue. It would be interesting to know how Halla Bol would be received because it's a woman's movie but Ajay certainly plays a big part in it..if he weren't in it would it still work?
