The movie's casting was bad!
by on Mar 29, 2007 11:21 PM  | Hide replies

While I agree with all the novel was mind-blowing, Ms. Nair might not have been able to do adequate justice to the story with her mindless casting.

Though as a NRI, I'm proud of Kal Penn's achievements in Hollywood, I honestly feel that he wasn't the right person for the reprisal of Gogol's role. He does not have the personality or the voice of the person (character) I have in my mind after reading the book! Alas, Ms. Nair let her teenage son influence her decision making on his casting in this movie.

The jury is still out on Tabu's acting skills.

Kal Penn fitted the role to a 'T', so were the others. But I can't believe not much is mentioned about Irfan Khan. We sometimes tend to just laud over-emoted roles; Irfan's role excelled in its natural under-played performance, so much so you don't even realize he is actaully "acting". Casting in general was good , so was the movie, though a tad slow for me in parts.

i haven't watched the movie but the novel is mind blowing. Its like sb has given words to the complexes felt by an NRI, who still wants to attached to its own country and is stuck in the middle of mash , trapped , not quite understanding which way to go.

would have been made catchy....Tabu's daughter's role is limited, should have focus on more issues of NRI.
