It is true, unless there is a contract binding on the music director that the song will be kept as sung by the singer, it is all in verbal faith. In fact, even in a contest, the winner can claim the prize only if the episode is telecast. Unless that happens, even winning is not a guarantee of getting the prize and/or money.
And what about Jagjit Singh's voice being replaced by Amotabh's in the title song of Baabul ??? Why did Jagjitji not raise the same issue.
On one hand we have Daler claiming his song was usurped by some one, we have someone else claiming that his song (Aye Ganpat from Shootout at Lokhandwala) has been usurped by Daler's own brother, Mika.
And anyways, such tactics dont help the movie, neither did it help Baabul, nor SOAL and it wont help JBJ also if the product is inferior or unappealing.
Even though I am a Yash Chopra fan, and DDLJ os my all time fav movie, i cant help noticing that ever since Aditya has taken over the business aspect of YRF, it has lost its charm and innocence and become a money minded corporation, trying to bully around with all, be it actors, distributors, exhibitors. Also, From making family movies, YRF has come down to making movies on crooks, conmen, live-in couples, etc.
I wouldnt be surprised to hear that Daler has already got the crore he claims to be asking for and this outburst is a pre-planned gimmick to garner cheap publicity for the movie.

Hats Off to Daler pahji, at least someone has the guts. The industry is full of sick suckers who'd take any nonsense hands down. And half of those poor gutless fraternity has been thanking Daler.
Sometimes, multiple versions of a song is recorded and with different singers. The decision of which version to use, solely lies with the producers of the film. I don't see any reason why Daler should be compalining as long as he has been paid for his work.

Arvind, when you plan and request an Artist to sing a song with words exclusively written by Gulzar for him and the Artist gives the time in June to record and everybody is happy with the recording as was shown in the footage on Ibn7 - and when you find out that you have been cheated.
Being an ardent music listener, it is very evident that the title track does sound like Daler and does not sound like Shankar. The latest in music technology should be used not abused. Daler should get an apology and the credit for the song as suitable.
There is a replacement for everything in the world .If you are so head weighted then people will find an alternate. Shankar's voice is as good as Daler. May be he is the correct replacement for Daler.
if you people cant accept it then stop listening!! dont fight
It is a simple breach of trust. There is nothing criminal about it.It is not a legal matter unless there was a written contract or the singers name had been publicly announced prior to release of album.Did Gulzar rewrite the lyrics to suit Shanker Mahadevan's voice? Why is Amitabh Bachchan being kept out of the controversy? In all fairness, Daler should have been informed about the change. But being a great singer,he should have a big heart. He could forgive and forget.

I would steer clear of Yash Chopra camp in future if it is done to me.We must move on in life without carrying the burden of destructive emotions.Daler Mehndi has already made his point emphatically. If this incident is at the back of his mind all the time, the purity of his singing will be affected.Even he may feel that he has better things to do than go after those who did not have the decency to keep him informed.

Very well said! And it is not an uncommon practice to change the singer after song has been done once! Maybe the producers should have informed him!

I am surprised how conviniently you guys gloss over the fact that he had not been 'paid'for the song he has sung... Had the producer paid Daler for the song, then his claims could have been contested... Actually, perhaps you guys are salaried individuals... used to getting the packet at the beginning or end of the month... So, you really don't understand the concept of 'fees'...
Cannot agree more with some of teh statements here that this is all YRF doing. How about me adding another twist. I think it is a deal that encompasses everybody including Daler - They have already sold the first cut CD of JBJ and now a new version is going to come out soon with the Daler Mehdi song as a bonus. Fans will buy the same album twice and everyone will be happy. It may be conspiracy theory but looks possible. Isn't it? -- Sumit
